View Full Version : Billericay Biker
Hi everyone, just thought i'd introduce myself, was having a chat with "The Guvnor" on Saturday night down the White Hart in Billericay and he suggested i joined.
To be honest i'm finding the R6 a bit to much and am not progressing my skills as much as i'd like, i'm sure this is a) i'm too old to start biking, 31yo and b) i bought a daft bike to start with, anyway i'm hoping that by going out with some people rather than on my own i'd be able to get some tips. I very nearly sold it last week but have decided to persevere.
I thought that as i am quite used to fast cars, i have a Jap spec Honda i-VTEC powered Lotus Elise and spend alot of time on track i'd find the R6 suitable but now i know that it's a completely different kettle of fish.
Anyway hope to meet you all soon and looking forward to some pointers.
Muzz

gorgeous weapons of choice, both of them. i think the r6 isnt the worst place to begin, getting out with soke experienced riders will help you to see that being a good rider is being able to ride smoothly. but is is also about confidence, how long have you had the bike?
summer is also another kettle of fish altogether so if you havent had your bike long enough to experience it stick around until you have.

I got the bike in May last year straight after passing my DAS but have only done about 250 miles on it, i also have trouble with my boots so am going to change those, i have absolutely no feel through them they're Gaerne's and feel that this is hampering my progression, i can't feel the gear foot lever through them which puts me off so i need to get some different one's (i may just be a bad workman blaming his tools)
Full spec on the car if anyones interested, although just got a much better exhaust so should be around 230bhp ish now
The full spec:
Honda 2.0 Litre K20a JDM Spec engine (223bhp/166lbft)
Honda 6 speed close ratio gear box
Limited slip differential
Light weight flywheel
Baffled sump
Lotus (Magnex) stainless steel sports exhaust
Sports Cat
ITG carbon induction system
Lotus Sport/Ohlins 2 way adjustable suspension (remote reservoir)
Lotus Sport adjustable front anti roll bar
OZ Racing alloy wheels
Toyo Proxes R888 Tyres (semi-slick)
Eliseparts Aluminium belled Disks
Pagid RS 4-2 brake pads
Stainless steel braided brake lines
Lotus Sport '340R' seats (black carbon leather/dark red alcantera)
Willans 4 point harnesses (inertia reel belts retained for road use)
Eliseparts front splitter
Lotus 3 piece rear diffuser
Exige S2 sidepods

uve barely been out on it and the weather last year was ****e. i done my das and jumped straight ona gsxr600 and everyone said to me it wasnt suitable but i gave it time and loved it. i think if uve only done 250 miles u gotta go and do a whole lot more to give it a chance. change ur boots sounds like a good idea as i think that would put me off having no feel.
i think its confidence u need and that will come with experience which takes time
this is all my opinion and i havent been riding that long so others more experienced might disagree but its my take on things.
also my old man has a lotus elise 11S or whatever it is, not as tricked up as yours tho lol
glad you joined matey :clap welcome to the site.........some very experienced riders on here so you will learn mate !
Thats the idea mate. i really want to become competant on the bike, i'm not looking to be the next Chris Walker but some skills would be nice (actually didn't Chris Walker fall off quite alot, well seemed that way in his book:laugh1)

Probably :clap, maybe i should see a shrink
the bloke before me did the mods on the car, i just bought it off him after he'd wasted his money. He spent £28k 9 months ago on the mods alone and then i bought it off him for a whole lot less than that. I belong to Lotus on Track and do quite a lot of track days and hardly any miles on the road so i can use most of the performance, i had a std Elise for 3 years and just outgrew it.
I would love to get the bike on track, i have a credit note from Focused Events where i didn't make it to Rockingham International last year on the bike. Do you guys do many track days?

actually i guessed at that probably a bit more maybe 500 but not many at all as as you say the weather was ****e, i suppose i'm just being impatient, roll on summer and i'll give it a proper crack. I've got some Sidi winter boots and they feel a whole lot better than the summer ones.
Also anyone know about Electrics the complete twat before me put this neon tax disk holder on and i'm dying to get rid of it, i feel a complete cock when it comes on, can i just snip the wires or will that cause other things to stop working, alternatively i'm just gonna wrap it round with black tape

OMG thats cheating. You cant use a packet mix! Even a Waitrose one. Its much more fun to make from scratch. And makes much nicer pancakes!

Hi Muzz, welcome,
the guys and girls on here do more trackdays than you can shake a stick at, some of the silly sausages even did one in January.
I won't be on a trackday until the better / hotter weather is upon us as i am very old and the chill gets to my aching bones.
Hello and welcome to the forum :clap
As the others have said bonding with your bike is all about confidence!
Just remember if / when you ride with some of the more experienced riders on here, ride at your own pace! Or you will find yourself in a field (believe me I know) :grin2
As has been said track days is where you will learn loads both about the bike and your confidence.
If you want to invest a little money to make your riding a better experience you could try http://www.superbikeschool.com/ some of the guys on here have done it and said it did wonders for there confidence.
Good luck and I hope to see you about soon!

I'll definately be doing one of these but think to get the most out of it i need to be a little bit more experienced, besides between now and April is busy busy so not much going to get done before then, got my Stag doo this weekend in Krakow :rockon 14 of us (we've all grown massive beards for the occasion), and then getting married on the 15th March, i'm intending on being drunk until then. Back from honeymoon on the 2nd April.
Be great to get it over with and get back to living, bikes and cars on the cards after as they've been neglected recently but hopefuly be able to meet some of you between now and then. The synics among you will probably say taht i won't be allowed to do anything after i'm married but i'm hoping to be the exception to the rule :laugh1
some of the silly sausages even did one in January.
Are they mad!
