So I bought my track farings, an absolute bargain off ebay for 76 notes with postage. They arrived and they were in good condition, and they were perfectly fine, they looked like this….

However I don’t like red that much and especially not faded red and despite looking ok in the picture in real life they are really faded and the finish on them is clearly a DIY job and when on the bike it served a purpose but didn’t look amazing….

So despite having never painted anything in my life I thought about painting them, held a vote and the public decided that painting was the way forward. So I came up with a number of designs and finalised on this one, or something along these lines…

So I bought some wet and dry, and some primer and some paint and got to work. Sanded and sanded and sanded, filled a few cracks and sorted out some of the ruff bits on the panels with some fibreglass, however I wasn’t aiming for a superb finish to be honest just something better than what was already on it. Here’s the panels after being rubbed down…

I hate rubbing panels down as this I had done before but I managed to get it all done in a few hours over 2 days. So it was ready for the primer…
The side panels first coat…

The belly pan ready for paint…

And the final finish in primer after 2 coats…

So I made sure they all fit and I must say the bike looks good in primer…

Ready for masking I masked out the areas and decided to paint all the white sections first…

Then red….

And finally green to create the Italian flag…

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/jaslander1983/tail-fullflag2.jpg

I was really pleased with the way the flags came out, and then I added black onto all other parts…

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f287/jaslander1983/Front-completeish.jpg

I wasn’t happy with the way the flags from each side met each other on the tail and the belly pan so I added a black stripe between them too

So now I’ve just got to wait until my graphics man, the one and the only Tark pulls his finger out and does them, then I can stick them on and put the final few coats of clear over the paint, before standing back and admiring my handy work!! So keep your eyes peeled for a final thread

Does look good that :clap

One of the problems at trackdays (for spectators anyway) is working out who is who. I don't think they will have that problem with you :grin2

Isn't it satisfying standing back and looking at something you have created :)

Nice bike you have there Pal....;)

Paintwork looks good. I've got a GSX-R 600K1 track toy as well as the Factory now (Cue jokes like 'How is a 600 going to drag your lardy ar$e around'), got 2 sets of race fairings and am currently considering my new colour schemes...

Look forward to seeing it complete and fitted to the bike.

yeah italian bike so the flag was a gimme lol. as for the finish it isnt bad but as i had never sprayed before i wasnt expecting the paint to come out as well as it had so i didnt spend ages gettign the surface fully prepped, in heinsight i should have but i wasnt to know, overall tho id say the finish is good. i did coem in my garage tho to find the belly pan had falled off and landed on my paddock stand leaving a red mark and chipped paint, i could have cried, but as itll soon be chipped with stones im not too concerned, also its under the bike,
