View Full Version : Regulator Fitting...GRRR..

Well i received my regulator today, looks solid enough so sprayed wd40 in the connections as recommended and went out to fit it.:reading

First came finding the thing, manual is as useful as a sheared bolt!!!
Finally i sourced it to under the left hand panel, upside-down bolted..:shooter

so i try to see if i can get a spanner in there to loosen it, fat chance of doing that!:shooter

So i grab a 10mm ratched and manage (and god knows how) to hold up the stupid mudflap thing with my elbow so i had enough turning to loosen the right hand bolt, it comes out with a few curses and smacks..:grin1

next comes the left hand bolt, well this is where it annoys me.. theres already minimum room for leverage and the frame suddenly raises meaning i get even less room than what i had.

So after much leverage (having to hold the mudflap back, half-fit the ratchet, and hold the regulator up to give me enough room) it loosens.
Not enough though, now its just turning back and forth..:grin3

So i decide to try anything else, WD40, nada, trying to grab the bolt with a pair of pliars, nada, and then go to grab another ratchet, coming out i do a double take by thinking the ratchet is too big (it was) when the wind picks up and slams the door on my hand, which was holding my door keys.. so i drop them and grab my hand whilst cursing the world when slam goes the door once again..:shooter

So ive got limited tools, the winds picked up, its blistering cold and i cant get back in!!!

Thankfully, ive already thought of this from a previous experience where i had to break a window to get in, and when my neighbour turns up i ask him for the spare key and let myself back in..

So my bikes still not fixed, ive decided to admit defeat as it was getting dark and give it a shot tommorow... any helpful hands in the area??:grin2

Update, after much grumbling, swearing, and moaning.. me and my dad finally managed to remove the old rectifier and fit the new one.

Good news is:

When i rev the engine the multimeter raises (pretty much mayhem but above the idle voltage). :grin2

Bad news is:

the bikes reading just over 12 volts on a multimeter, though the built in says more 13.. and the battery symbol is flashing... even after riding it to corringham and back im considering putting the optimate on the battery then refitting it.:reading

I had half-turnt to go back into the house when it happened.:shooter

Jobs done now though, batteries back on the optimate and as usual, mockery from the rest of essex bikers when all you do is ask for help.:grin3

I know, I feel really bad about it.

I cant tell if thats sarcasm or not, and im not jumping to conclusions.....

So i'll take it as a genuine comment! :grin2 Now behave and dont make me come over there!

But seriously, I like 2e's bike, its different, just coz its not a cbr or a gsxr or similar, doesnt mean its crap, its unique and 2e like's it, if u dont like a bike, dont buy it, none of you own that bike, so why complain about it. If 2e likes it, and i know he bitches but as someone said recently, he's a tinkerer, and if he's happy to work on that bike till its right and not just chuck it in and buy a sports bike just to escape the jokes, then who are we to judge?!?!?!

ok, rarrrr moment over, i think i'm turning into my mother :grin2 Where's my hairbrush??

Group huggles :cuddle

U know Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit right............ mind you, at least it'd be understood on the forum. mwahahahaha

Me tho, im never, ever sarcastic!

TBH I think even if 2e had a shed load of money in his bank he would still go for something unusual thats a few years old and need to be played with to tinker with. Anyway can anyone see him riding a nice shiney new gixxer or R1 or even a blade????? Dont think it would suit him now.

Indeed I do!

Thats my point too Sniffer, 2E on a sports bike............ Just wouldnt look right, He's always gonna be the guy with the unusual bike who's always fixing one thing or another and he has my respect for that. Like I said Doodlebug, nothin personal meant, was just in a bit of an odd mood :cuddle
