Niether,,, you want a nice FS1E gold or maroon on an "N" plate with drum front brake, none of yer fancy DX disc brakes required, or if you feel the need for speed and like using the services of the AA or RAC then go for a Fantic GT, feckin fast but feckin awfull Italian construction ( I pushed mine further than i rode it)
For the ultimate in "Cool" get a Fantic chopper, you will look like a complete tosser but everyone will know you have thousands of quids to spend on a funny looking bike but it looks great on the back of a recovery truck ( Italian again)
AP 50's were a good quick ped, worth a few quid now and carry the legendary "Suzuki" badge, 55mph no worries.
Do not under any circumstances consider the Honda 50SS, we laughed our tits off at people who bought them in 1975, slow as feck, but stil faster than todays 30mph restricted peds.
Modern 50cc peds ? pfff
go back to a pre 76 ped,, more fun, more speed, more cred :clap

i havnt got much money to spend really i think my limit is aboiut £2000 - £2500 coz its my first bike an all..i might have a look at the AP50's they sound pretty good spesh at 55mph no worries. Dont like much of the style of the older peds tho..i prefer the more modern styles..tho my dad also keeps telling me that the older peds are better

I thought you were "steady Eddie", I had an SS50, it may not have been the fastest of the bunch, but it was the most reliable and the most economical!:shooter
My mate had an AP50, and he would come screaming past me and disappear into the distance, then a few miles up the road he would be there on the side of the road, broken down yet again, the two electrodes of the spark plug used to weld themselves together on a regular bassis. :laugh1
On one occassion I towed him home, (he hung onto my rear rack) he was astounded, at the torque and admitted there was no way his AP50 would do that:grin1

Yeah the mates I knew in the early days of biking had the AP50's and theres did the same thing...............
But it had to be the 'Fantic TI 6 speed', that was the one to have :D

I've got an SS50 (in a DT50 frame I think) in my back garden at the moment. I needed the paddock stand to repair a front puncture on my Africa Twin yesterday so it's leaning against the wall waiting for a puff of wind to blow it over. Wish the thing had a sidestand. I find the power quite scary!!! No that's a lie, I find the brakes quite scary!

But those things will do 50 mph legally, all the modern ones are restricted to 30mph and if you derestrict it you are not insured, and not licensed.

If it comes to RS50 ot TZR50, then get the RS50 because the spares are easier to get hold of when you break it, and you will break it! Accept that fact, treat it as training, and learn from it. Now having accepted you will damage it, consider something without a fairing, like this maybe?

There is only the one modern 2 stroke 5occ geared engine that I know of.
Its a case of a non motocycle manufacturer came up with a good powerfull engine, and was prepared to sell it to anyone, the volumes involved meant that to produce anything that was as powerfull but at the same time reliable, the development costs would make the unit cost too high, thus they all buy in the AM6 from Minarelli.

So if moped madness happens again, you are the man to crawl up to then!We missed out on the upcoming May Peterborough moped enduro, it was full last year, before we even got to see the entry form, so it won't see blood and swearing till September now, managed to get onto that one.

Proper bike LOL
My Fantic GT in 1977, thats my ugly mug on the right, on the left is non other than Tony Fox with his Fantic Ti who's father happened to own Sewell and Fox motorcycles which was a Fantic dealer, handy to know................
Tony and I rode 100 miles each way to watch the Hants Grand International MX in "77" at Matchams park, my bike siezed it's big end bearings 20 miles from home,,,, happy days :laugh1

Neil that bike for your mates, that looks like the Super T, the TI had the same exhaust as the GT, and that one's got the high level (We also had style in them days) pea shooter exhaust.
Fox's Motorcycles, Five Bells Roundabout, that was like going into the arch, crap everywhere, bits all over the place, but he knew where everything was and if he didn't have what you wanted, he had something that would fit. Top Bloke, places like that now are few and far between.

He's only bloody right too!! Listen to this man! i found this out the hard way, i waited 6 weeks for a piston cylinder & head to turn up for my DERBI SENDER (before gilera bought them out & made them easier to get parts for) but it turns out i could ave gone to highsides & bought then for the rs50, tzr50, dt50, gilera gsm50......... all that time & expense wasted & the 4 options looking me in the face! just didnt know that till much later when getting involved with rebuilding 125's, i'd say a triais bike like kas has posted up is your best bet, particularly if you look at the DT50 parts are easy, they are reliable, mine had 22000 on the clock before everything broke, and i must have crashed that thing about 30 or 40 times & all i ever bought was rolls of duct tape & brake & clutch levers, & if the weather was right, (nice an mucky) i used to go cross country on my way home through horndon..... much fun had, tbh i really wish i hadn't bought an rs 125 cos i only samshed the fairing some weeks after getting it... good luck with your choice

rs50 mate,
i just sold mine and she was a beautiful ride... reliable, stable, great in corners cuz she was so light, accelarated well, good top end (65 which aint bad bearing in mind i weight almost 17 stone) reliable. and a just a great bike. ive heard the TZR50's are not so reliable and i had a go on one at the local aerodrome and it was HORRID
RS50 all the way!
i would definatly buy a 2 smoker though, muh more fun just dont rag it to death as all the 2 stroke geard 50's have a tendancy to let go of the piston rings if you rag em too much

not for sale now or ever but i have a puch m50 sports moped still, i rode it when i was 16 and i will keep it forever, i thought it was great that all my mates and the kids in my area were stuck at 30 or risking their license on de-restricted ones. i even took it over to the isle of man one year and did a lap :laugh1 got there in a van then rode it mind!!!
Get an older 50 every time, nobody would question the style because they wont see you for long when you pass them lol
