Site Changes Tonight

[Dan]

We will be makng a few (cosmetic) changes to the site tonight at some point between 9-11pm

When the changes are being made, i'm going to close the forums just in case things go wrong and I have to revert to a backup of the database.

Will confirm in this thread when im done.

Any feedback welcomed - will also be announcing the new membership options available should you be interested.
As mentioned before, nothing is changing for existing users other than the cosmetic bits ;)

You might notice a few things missing. The maps, home page etc all need links re-sorting.

Exactly right - one thing at a time tho, I need to figure out what stylevar the main page uses at http://www.essexbikers.co.uk - cos i've tried every damm option and cannot find the background to the boxes. Currently its using white text on a white background!

Dan, it seems quite alot is f**ked now..

im all for moving the site forward but i honestly dont like it

Heres a few problems:

Reply to a post and it prompts you to log in, you have white text boxes and black writing on a black background, not a huge problem if you know what it means but i like the writing to be there for my own security.:grin2

When you reply to the post the links etc etc all appear as default, thus destroying the hard work doodlebug has gone the effort to do.:grin3


And personally, i dont like it as i dont think it suits the site, and this comes as no offence to karl, i think the eb logo is brilliant and what not but you should run up a few ideas like EB layout in blue, red, green, or whatever to see the preference, otherwise im going to be spending a hell of alot of time hacking the usercp to get Essex bikers to view normal on my computer ;)

Edit: ok the styles suddenly reverted back on my screen, woot.. good old plain EB, just the way it should be.

Though alot of prompt boxers are broken (black with blacktext) like the 'delete this message' on private messages, quick reply box on threads, and proper reply box backgrounds.

As you have probably already seen, i've reverted back. I've been at it since 9pm, and too much breaks with the new style.

Karl has no net connection so he cant see and no one else is around so i'm done for the night ;)

Will try again another day.

As for the colours, battle that out amongst yourselves, but it looks good on the beta site imho ;) Things like the black background arnt going to be normal, if that occurs then its just a mistake in the style setup. Just let us know and we will change it.

The site will be red. Its based on the logo which has always been red.
Another reason is that there a number of other site that look EXACTLY the same as this current blue set up

We dont expect everyone to like it, especially straight away, but once everything is in place and working together it will look a lot fresher, and a lot more up to date.

Being 100% honest i saw the new style on my dads computer and figured it was his computer feckin up! Looked to me like the graphics card was going and the computer was reverting back to windows 95 graphics..:grin2


then i came onto my computer and realised the whole site had changed... and well........i know what my vote is but ill wait to see the end result before passing my whole judgement.:grin3

Part of the Bike logo is still being used on the t shirts etc. Its just the forum header that has been updated.
Bolt neck has basicly just made it a bit clearer and easier to use for printing etc. The problem with the logo as we found, was when it came to printing it on merchandise it worked out very complicated and expensive because of the colouring.

When its sorted it will look mighty fine !!:clap

I would imagine that 99% of people will be chuffed with doodles work, however for those who are not you can simply select the standard style for the forum in your usercp - ive got no problems leaving it there, but the new one will be the default.

Am out tonight Karl, might be around tomorrow to sort it all out.

The vbadvanced stuff that runs the main page I have a solution for - it was the gradient colours that for some reason do not show in that system so all we need to do is create a child style off of your one, change all the gradients on that and make all the vbadvanced pages use that.

The gallery died because all the templates are within the style - using your style my gallery templates were not available which is why that didnt work.

I'll need to also update the navigation templates, but thats no biggie.

There are a couple of colours that need changing in the style once its up and running, the text editor for some reason had a black background (I think 2E mentioned this as well) but we'll have a fiddle once its up and tweek it.

I cant think of anything else that broke.

One good thing out of last night tho is I managed to upgrade the vbadvanced stuff for the first time in over a year so at least i got that done.

let me be clear i wasnt moaning about the site changes as such, i support moving eb forward 150%!:reading

I was just saying how it appeared on my screen and the problems with it, i beta test loads of stuff so its more a force of habit than anything else.:grin2

the 'beta site' you show in the first post is being viewed in Mozilla, and looks lots better than what i was viewing last night in IE7.:grin3

Perhaps you should see how it looks in both, some sites look better in mozilla than ie 7..:grin2

Ive viewed it in mozilla, ie 4 through 7, safari and opera on both PC and Mac. Looks basically the same in each.

As Dan isnt around tonight all will stay the same for now, hopefully tomorrow we can have another go at it. :)
