well i thought i,d write up a bit about last weeks Euro trip.
9 of us on 8 bikes took the overnight ferry from Harwich to hook. Single cabin would have been good value at £54, if I,d used it! thats how it felt, getting woken @6AM, having been in the bar till 2AM (note to self -PRATT!)
straight out onto motorway for blast to russelhiem, outside Frankfurt.
boring industrial place, where we managed to end up in what seemed like a spanish restaurant for gays! nice paella though.
2nd day and we got off the motorway to pick up the Romantische Strasse (romantic rd) its an old pilgrims route along some really nice rds.
saw lots of german bikers out so popular. followed this to a brilliant town called Rotthenburg, we stopped for a late Lunch but ended up staying, as it was so nice. its a hugh walled city about 600 years old. worth a look if your down that way.
next day we continued on this route to Austria, via the stunning Nueschwanstein castles then had lunch in Fussen.
crossing into Austria, we were struggling for rooms, when we meet an Austrian guy who turned out to be a biker, he found us a guest house, got his car and took us there. we got him to say for a beer and meal, and he was good company advising some good routes.
Bit of a slow start next day, as the drinks bill said, we had 36 beers and 8 bottles of wine with dinner.
we had a cracking ride through the alps down to Lake Garda.
We found a hotel, where our rooms backed onto the `beach`3 of us went for a `quick` swim in the lake, temp clue in surrounding snow covered alps!!!
next day we rode down the lakeside, had a nice coffee stop, then on to Lake Como, very busy traffic saw us getting split up a bit.
Como was nice, stunning views from the top of the venicular railway, but we were up for a `party` night and it wasn,t, closed up fairly early.
next day saw us ride though the swiss alps, and me going off on one, left the rest for a blast up a cross mountain pass:grin2 hopefully the pic has come out. got to the top, and it was blocked! solid. still good fun going back.
we stayed in france that night. three of us split from the group then, and started `making progress` through France, brilliant rds lots of room and good surfaces. we stayed off the motorways and had a really good day heading up country.
Next morning we continued on the D and N routes but after a late breaky stop and a village cafe for coffee and bagettes, we had to get on the motorways. had a bit of luck with the traffic cops and there radar traps, lots of warnings :grin2
got an early train and home for 6.30PM bloody knackered, having done 1800 miles 550 of them on sat.
bike was very good on open rds, but not so in town, possibly because chain and sprockets went really quickly, as in no real wear to b******sed in about 1000 miles.
going to try and fit in a couple of weekenders, either up country, or France before the year ends.

interesting read... cant believe all that to read and one picture?? not exactly selling it mate! but i love it anyway.. me and my brother are going to be touring soon.. perhaps you'd like to tag along with us.. we're looking at riding through france and go wherever the roads take us ;)

As for the chain and sprockets... hmm.. do you have Scottoiler on the bike? ive been reading up and wondering whether i should invest in one before making the trip...

Apparently make the chain last up to 7 times longer??
