Within the next 6 months im due to get an insurance payout, and of course i have started thinking about spending it already, and the first thing i thought of spending it on is a new bike well a nearly new one. Gonna be looking for a 600 sports again and i have narrowed it down to the gsxr600 and the cbr600rr. Which ever one i get it will be used as my main bike and possibly be taken to a few track days.
Having never ridden either bike i thought i would call on the fountain of motorcycle knowledge that is EB for some guidence. Which one do you think would be the better bike for me?

Gixxer 600 without a doubt if your planning on doing a few track days, much more flickable than the RR...thats my opinion on it anyway....Take both for a ride though...

The usual answer on this would be go test ride both....if you read the press, the CBR is a consumate performer and looks like the class winner this year.....but then the GSXR looks bloody lovely especially in the white livery......either one you cannot go wrong imo:clap

yeah i was gonna do that anyway, but wanted to know the pro's and cons of each bike, like i have heard that the cbr is pretty much bullet proof and totally reliable where as the gsxr can sometimes give u alot of trouble, dont know if either is true having not owned or really known anyone that owned them. Just wanted to know what i would be in for with each bike, thought it would make the decision easier.

no i have to say...im rather young my self....and although spelling is one thing...im not exactly good at it...i feel there is NO EXCUSE to abbreviate EVERYTHING...it REALLY annoys me. Its like an ENTIRE generation growing up not educated propperly, i mean what grades do these people get for English language and english literature? Are they getting U's accross the board?! .....JEEEBUS! Anyways....a tad off topic! (this wasnt a moan at any one in particular).....but.... i have seen my younger sisters CV.....and she used some of the abbreviations in that. And where i used to work, some of the younger people would use it for purchase orders and such....i mean What the Fook is up with this new generation???????

Why is that honda trying to pose as a GSXR?

Somebody please explain? Are honda realising that the bike to have is a gixxer and theyre trying to ponse off the back of the best, the blue and white of a GSX-bloody-R! Thats my opinion of course lol

All joke aside, the cbr6rr is meant to handle the better of all the 600 class, and every man and his dog has a gsxr, but i rekon the honda lacks passion, its a full on precisely engineered piece of japanese brilliance, but its got no soul!

source i was referring to was Bike Magazines article

can't find the actual article online but heres the gist http://londonbikers.com/news/1203/honda-cbr600rr-bike-magazines-machine-of-the-year-2007

will hunt this years review of the 2008 lot when i get to work as again they rated it the best 600.
Bikes it was up against was GSXR600, Daytona 675 & Kwaka ZX6R

Dont forget those reviews are normally track orientated...;)

the cbr lacks a bit of mid range grunt....the new one is supposed to be good but as always people shouldnt take note of what the bike mags say....just use it as a starting point...i hated the cbr...but then others may like it....the last one lacked a slipper clutch which spoilt it....

Newer than mine :headshoot :party1

Hahaha

I do like that one, its just as nice in white but i couldn't decide which picture to post. Id definitely get rid of that numberplate holder thingy (yeah technical i know) because it looks bloody horrid, looks like they forgot to attach it till after they had finished and some clever sod asked where the number plate was going!

http://www.amadirectlink.com/news/2006/cbr600rr/white.jpg

All the sports bikes seem to be starting to look a bit similar tho.

Def test ride both, its all down to personal preference, ive ridden an SRAD Gixxer and hated it, but my ex adored it, Ive ridden an R6, an R1, plus a VFR750 and didnt get on with any of them, but my Dad loves all of them. But i adore the cbr, havent tried the newer shape but id love to give it a go!

Take the opportunity while you've got it and take them both out for a test ride, see how they feel and what you think.

Test ride them, but the cbr/rr is well known for being hard on the wrists after a while, and although it's user friendly (honda trade mark) also makes them a bit bland.
Also, you'll be hard pushed to get a deal out of Honda, they just don't like giving discount and the insurance will normally be a bit higher because they are the most stolen bike in their class. I pay £150 full comp for my 600 gixxer. Same deal with same insurer on a cbr comes in at £260.

Do the sums yourself.

Anyway.......why would you want a bike like the cbr when you could have one of these.

Didn't know the honda was hard on the wrist, thats definately gonna be a big mark against it as my wrist is still very dodgy after the accident, and lower insurance is always a big bonus. Will definately have to take both for a ride before i decide.
I must admit though the cbr does look great in white
