View Full Version : Break Disks
Wilst talking to Mick down the pub tonight I was told of a post regarding a company that can replace the bobbings that hold the disk to the center bit.
so wile searching for this thread i come across a post saying that the bobbins should rotate freely, as far as i can remember mine never have, and the disks i brought the other day (used) only 3 of the 8 move as they dont appear to have a washer thing behind them.
So the question is 1, should they move, and 2, if not can some one point me in the direction of either the thread or the details of a company that can fix/ replace the bobbins.
Thanks

Use a cone cutter bit in a battery drill and a can of brae cleaner. Keep spraying the bobbins and put the drill bit into the bobbin and rotate slowly - should free them up...
If I remember correctly (and this makes sence) the reason they should move is two fold. Firstly they are designed like this to stop heat transfer to other parts of the bike but if they are designed to move and they can't depending on how and where they are stuck they could give the impression of a buckled disc. I usually tap them with something when i clean the bike just make sure there all free ;)
right so they should move? them how come some of the bobbins have washers on the back and some dont?

The top pic, shows one of the washers that is sticking out from behind the bobbin, this is the worse one and the only one where the washer showed up in the pic.
The bottom image is one of the bobbins that has no washer behind it.
Hope that helps
