Well Im going for it, Ive been toying with the idea of getting a private plate for a while now and thought sod why not. Its going to cost me £268.00 thats with the dreaded vat and dvla transfer fee. (£80).
They are offering a full transfer service at £20, But say this can be done by me, Its as easy as A,B,C, they say. They,ve asked for my money but no bike (or log book) details. Has anyone done this sort of thing before. Any advise would be helpful before I take the plunge. thanks

It is easy to transfer a plate once you have the retention certificate, but remember the DVLA used to state once the registration mark has been allocated to a motorbike it has to stay with a 2-wheeled vehicle forever!
Unless of course the law has changed since I sold my last private plate at a HUUUUGGGGEEE profit to some spotty yoof from Harlow in a 911, when they become so popular even kids in nova's had them on their resin rockets.
Suddenly a PP was not as desirable..........

The plate will go with the bike anyway when I come to sell so thats ok. I just have to be patient now and wait. Also do I have to wait till my tax is due before I can put my new plate on bike. The reg on the disc will not match the plate other wize. thanks.
If I remember this right.....
They will reissue the tax disc when they send you the paperwork so you can get the plate made up, so you can do it now if you want to.
You can even pop up to Chelmsford to the local office and get everything sorted out in the same day.

OK Ill do that thanks.
Tone what are they sending you? I assume as they are not transferring the plate they will be sending you the retention certificate. As they have said it's as easy as A,B,C all the info you need is on the doc and as has been said if your transferring from the doc to bike they can usually do it the same day.

I put a plate on my Aprilia - Just sent off the retention cert along with the logbook and a photocopy of the tax disc.
Couple of days later a letter arrived telling me I could now put the plate and enclosed was a new tax disc. New V5C arrived about a week later.
Used Ipswich DVLA local office as I was told they are more efficient there....
