View Full Version : Question Battery Discharging?
Hey guys, The GT has been doing this random problem of discharging the battery... some days ill go out and itll start first time on the button, other times itll greet me with a slow turn over and then clicking noises of a flat battery..:shooter
This will be if its left for a day or so.. its only just started doing it..:reading
my dad reckons it could be the battery connections but they have always been like that- top connected connections.
Its not a huge problem.. and im not terribly bothered as im flogging the bike anyway.. but what could it be (for reference)??:grin3

Sounds to me like your battery has had it. How old is it?

Could be a few things, yes your battery could be shafted,or you could have a current d**** (is it alarmed?) could be an electrical connection problem (bad earth etc) or it could even be a "lazy" starter motor, this is where the resistance in the starter motor builds up and it takes alot more current to turn it,have you tried bump starting it? does it fire straight away if you do?

The batterys pretty much brand new, bought only a couple of months ago.:skip
Yes it bump starts first time and seems to hold a charge, i was in romford once, pulled over for directions, switched engine off, and the tachometer read '10volts' and refused to start.. a bump start and the bike starts straight away.:reading

Sounds like it could be your starter then, happened to mine,do you start it with the lights on or off? it might be worth getting the starter current draw checked or whipping the starter off and getting it overhauled

i start the bike with nothing on but the ignition... i reckon it could be this.. the starter motor is probably original, same as the rest of the bike was.:shooter
Well.. glad i know now though.. thanks:grin1

Surely, as you want to sell the bike, and make it worth a good buy to someone, you should be bothered about the problem?
I would be mighty annoyed to find that it doesnt start if i came to view and potentially buy.
