A little warning, to all 16 year olds or those who know 16 year olds, Bocking Traffic Police in Braintree are having a purge on derestricted Mopeds.
John Pease the local big dealer are refusing to derestrict them, saying they've been told not to by Bocking Police. They have been seen snooping about in Braintree College car park looking at the Mopeds, and we know of 2 so far who've been pulled, one was given a week to get it all standard and present it at the Cop shop, the other had his bike confiscated, (he was doing 62mph when he was pulled!!!!), until his Mum/Dad come and talk to cops.
I don't know how widespred this is, but it is definitely happening around here, so be warned, either be legal or stay off the road fort the time being.
Its must be good news 'cos there obviously isn't any proper crime for them to deal with!!!!!!

Your FZR isn't restricted is it?
It is soo easy to tell if a ped is restricted just by looking at the exhaust but I would have thought it would be a little harder to prove your 250 was or not.

It is my personal opinion that restricted mopeds are dangerous, all vehicles need to be able to keep up with the traffic flow.
I had a Honda SS50 when I was 16, I never had any speed related problems, I came off it through use of front brake on a loose surface on a bend.....but I wasn't going any speed and I would still have come off if I was doing 5mph.
........Lets face it you can do OVER 30mph on a pedal cycle, on the road, with no licence, no Insurance, no number plate to identify you, at what shall we say 10 years of age :?: :?:
I KNOW 16 year old's do some stupid things and they are gonna come off, but they'll do it at slow speed they don't often fall off over 30mph anyhow!
I'd agree that they don't need to go over 50mph, and I'd agree to banning them from dual carriageways.
Look at the death statistics, how many moped riders are in there!!!!, no its people like me that make up the death and serious injury stats, 40 years old, bike for fun only, ride only at wekends, ......People like me are the ones who should be limited to 30mph :!:
Needless to say, no fly's on us, my son is all legal and fully restricted.

lol i take iut you dont go out for rides with him then or do u just walk?
I agree. 30mph is too slow!
You have to stay in too near to the curb and then you are in danger of all the drains nd crap that gets thrown to the sides.
50mph can keep up with most traffic.
Spider

but then again if u can go 50mph u are sitting there trying to overtake traffic doing 40mph which involves sittin up there ass! not mentioning no names SIMON!

Im for peds not being restricted. I had an Rs50 that was derestricted, it had to be done coz it was dangerous having a bike with that much faring only doing 35 tops. The wind used to catch the faring and i'd be all over the place with no answer. I got it derestricted and i found giving the throttle a skirt help.
I'll hold me hands up and admit me, and my mate that also had an Rs50, used to go off on rides and try to do stoppies, wheelies and we'd find hump back bridges to get air off (no i dont recommend or condone this) but we were 16/17 yrs old. But the 1 major difference was we didnt speed or make a nuisance of ourselfs in the town, which i think is where a lot of the problems lay.

And also how many of them go on to ride proper bikes later on?
Spider

in my experiance most people who ride a 50 geared bike will go on to ride a proper bike later on but only a few who ride a moped (automatic) go on to ride a real bike ! i started off on a moped! and then on to a real bike but that was because of my family influence my dad being a biker and my mum!

We ALL did silly things when we were 16, it is quite normal, as long as we aren't putting other peoples lives and property at excessive risk, 16 year olds will go out and put their lives at risk getting kicks whether you let 'em loose on the road or not!
How do we start a campaign to get the 30mph restriction law on mopeds changed to say 50mph :?: :?: :?: :?: The 16 year olds and below, don't have a vote so they have no political pressure :!: :!: :!:

Haha, thats rediculas, propper criminals for having a scooter that goes 45mph, they should go and catch some real criminals, not just sit there with their mobile speed cams at the side of the road, you get people like me who have a habbit of seeing them then booting them over and running off ;)
never once been pulled up myself though, dont plan on it either, i fricking hate cops, not once have they done somthing correct for me, i got nocked off my bike and it took them 7 days to come out and take a statement, i had the cars number plate and everything! I could of been lying there crippled in the hospital or anything, bloody useless!

bugger right near me lol...bloody john pease {EB} anyways ..
i have to agree with "kasandrich"
I had an old BiWiz when i turned 16, managed to ride it for about 3months after having done my CBT and being one of the most hilly places in the country, it just wasn't safe! I know of bicycles that have overtaken mopeds!!! (Not mine i'd like to add though) I used to have cars swarming all over me, it was stupidly dangerous for me and the car drivers (because of their impatience). In the end, I managed to talk my old man into letting me bore it out to 70cc, new exhaust (but it looked legal, not one of them bedn round wotsit jobbies) and a few other bits. Made it do about 45, which was more than enough for getting around and was so much safer! I even had to fight my Dad off it a lot and he weighs 16stone! You would have been lucky if you could keep the front wheel down though when pulling away! :D
No idea how to start campaigning for it, but if anyone finds out, I really think we should capmaign for everyone to start off on two wheels before they can drive!!! Anyone else agree?

You guys could actually get 30mph outta your peds! I could get 28mph on the flat with my bike screaming and as soon as I hit the slightest bit of hill it would drop to 14mph!. If I wasnt allowed to get my bike derestricted I probable would have never ridden it again (a 2003 TZR 50) Anyway its been jetted and a new exhaust fittes and does around 65. I feel much safer doing around 50 than I do when im going 28.
Bloody dangerouse!
used to get 35 out of my ped before it was de-restricted etc.! and about 20 up a hill.
but then it's probably all to do with weight, that's why i don't really see much point in 50cc bikes.
then when it was de-restricted about 45mph, but then, never was really sure, cos the needle went past the actual speedo (it stopped at 40)! But did have the needle bouncing on several occassions, which is not a feeling i would really like to experience again!!!

I've been riding my 50cc Gilera SKP for nearly a year now, I don't agree with the 30mph restriction, but I've stuck with it unlike a lot of my friends!
A couple have now bought 125's, being a DT 125, NSR 125 and I'm buying a YZ 125 off a mate, oh and ones got a CBR 400 (33bhp). I'm wanting to build up my NCB's and get bigger bikes and full license but! Cant wait to get on my YZ in a month, some of you might see us over Braintree in the next few months!
Well I must say that I think you deserve a medal for sticking with the 30mph restriction!!! Good on you! :D couldn't do it personally!
Your YZ, aren't they made as off-road bikes...? If they are, have you put lights etc. on or have you just got a daytime MOT?
Why can't you do your full license? It's easy! Just do it and then get a de-restricted 125 or a restricted 400 or 250 or something! Because NCB's on stuff like 'peds and smaller engined bikes don't tend to have as much weighting I doubt as if u had it on a bigger bike... (well that's what my bike instructor said after I passed my test)! Would have thought that NCB's are NCB's, but hey! Who knows?!
If he has a restricted 50cc ped and hasn't been riding it for a year yet, that would suggest to me thhat he isn't yet 17 so wont be able to do the test yet.
oh yer! d'oh!
Well he can do it when he has served out his year then!

Yeah, I'm hoping to do everything this year, got my car theory on 14th May and I'm hoping to get round to doing the bike theory not long after, I also want to get my full bike test out the way later this year. I don't think you get asked what the NCB's come from, wether riding a 50 or 1000, you haven't claimed so you get an NCB. I'm not 17 yet so I cant ride my the YZ125mx which I'm buying off a friend for a few more weeks. It has been registered for the road, (brake light, front light) and is going in for a new MOT in a couple of weeks (hopefully).
oh right, well all sounds good then mate! But if I were u, I'd do the bike test first instead of later on in the year, cos u don't get wet or cold in a car!!! I did my test in late November last year and it was hammerring it down! It went through my waterproofs, Ashman boots and even my Frank Thomas trousers! It was not fun!
YZ sounds cool, what else has been done? expect it needed smaller sprockets...? Cos we have just started to put my RM125 on the road and well, the rear sprocket is about the same size as a mini wheel! Just not practical for the road!!!
Spider

maybe not practical fr the road but good for wheelies!
yer, be struggling to keep the front end down i expect!!!
hmm... i want a go!!!
oh well, should have my rm for that sometime soon!

Heres a picture of the YZ I'm getting, it's going in for a MOT and then I'm getting it next week so I can ride on on my b-day! It's {EB} fast!! Only gets bout 60 and thats with an upped front sproko but it might be able to go up another tooth. I lifts up in every gear which is scary as I'm quite small, sorry bout the photo had to compress it!

looks nice! Sounds like good fun!
Is that a headlight on that? You got a brake light etc. or u just going for arm signals? I'd advise some sort of brake light. It only gives car drivers another reason to run into u!
My RM has been registered, taxed+MOT'd, can't wait to get that out on the road for a quick rag around! :)

Yes it has a headlight which looks weird in the photo from the side but it is a whole unit at the front. As you'll know from regestering you have to have a headlight, brake light and a horn to be legal. It has all of these and the previous owner rigged up a battery in the air box as it doesn't have and alternator. I'm gonna try and rig up a couple of hidden L.E.D's for rear indicators which it doesn't have as I ride local at night a lot.
Have you got an RMX then? Any photos?
Can't wait I'm on the road thursday, I'll tell you how it goes (if I'm still alive!) as I've taken a day off work to get used to it!
Battery in the airbox? Will that not reduce performance at all?
You don't actually need a headlight or brake light, all you need is a horn for it to be registered on a daytime MOT (which is what mine has)! 8)
I don't actually have any pics of it unfortunately, will take some when it is clean and i can be bothered! In fact I should really do that!
Went out on it today for the first time, so loud!!! :) and the front end does and half like to go light!!!
It is good fun, but u can tell that they are race tuned! So watch yourself! Pick up stupidly nicely! Plus the gears are so close together, had to keep checking that i had actually changed gear!

ONLY A HORN!!!
so that means u must be able to register them little go-peds!!!
better tell my mate as we were talking about it the other day as he just bought a 43cc one which is meant for off road use,but he has been scootin it from his to mine which is about a few miles n taxes him about 5-6mins longer than it does in the car. n thats only coz ya have to slow down on some bends n get up a few hills! its about as fast as a ped n on ebay someone is selling the instructions for how to make a NOS kit for them for around £10 which takes it from 1 hpower to 6-7hpower.near enough a garantee flip! haha
yer, that's all it takes! plus road legal tyres!
but then u will have to get tax still! (but only £15)!
altho, he will need a lid then too, so might look a bit of a pillock!

when he got it it was raining so he took off looking summin like micheal jackson in tight leathers, crosser boots n lid!!!
