There are moves afoot to let motorbikes use the cycle reservoirs in the UK too.

Apparently one of the experimental motorbike reservoirs is in Newham, somewhere near Canning Town. I'm told it has the normal cycle logo with the words '& Motorcycles' written underneath.

Technically it's 3 penalty points for jumping a red light if you ride into the box when the light is red. It's legally okay to stop in it if you enter it on green or amber and the light changes to red. Having said that, a lot of them don't match the legal requirements so are non compliant.
now im confused..
the proposed idea is that cyclists and motorcyclists can each stop in a box infront of the traffic..
these boxes are they not 'behind' the traffic lights... like the cycle lane box is..

The cyclists and the motorcyclists share the same box. Both stop lines are behind the signal head. That's a badly drawn picture, signal heads should be 2.5 m in front of the foremost stopline.

I have always used these boxes in London, and in front of the Police, generally they are full of bikers that have filtered through to the front of a traffic queue, i suppose its accepted that its the sensible option to do (but open to the discretion of a Police Officer?).
The reason you 'can' be given 3 points for going into on a red light is quite simply because of the solid white line that motorised vehicles (including motorcycles) are not supposed to cross, the white line at the foremost edge of the box is only applicable to bicycles ;)
Its just one of those things, i imagine it will catch on, as will the use of bus lanes for motorbikes (again :D )
