I'm looking at getting a new exhuast for my K7, possibly an Akrapovic Stubby. I've looked at previous threads about this but can come to a conclusion as to whether or not the bike will need a K&N and remapping or not and if so where can i get it remapped and for roughly how many pennies. Cheers for shinning any light my way.

I looked into this and tbh it's not worth spending the money.
Just stick the can on. If it has any flat spots or problems a suzuki dealer should be able to iron them out using the fitted suzuki ecu by plugging in a yoshi box.
I Have a K+N but took it out and put the oem filter back in. Runs much better.

a remap will be alot more money then a yoshi box
because you got about £240 for the Power Commander, then you got about £120 for a decent dyno custom map
With the yoshi box it'll cost you around £30 at parkinson in colchester but its that cheap as they dnt have a dyno, so all they do is plug it in to ecm unit and tweek it a little)
If you want the best performance out of your bike with the filter and pipe then go for the Power commander as the power curve will be alot smoother, if you just want your power curve to be a bit smoother then yoshi box will do. ive booked mine in on the 31st for the yoshi method i'm going to see how it runs (currently got k6 1000, yoshi pipe n bmc race filter)

If its just the can and link pipe then you shouldnt need to do anything.
A lot of these big exhaust companies develop their cans as a direct replacement. Its designed to go staright on with no need to tweek.....the bikes sensors and ecu will do any little bits.
you'd only really need a load of extra work like full dyno set up if youre changing the whole system, andding a high flow air filter, TRE etc.

I got mine from a racing firm in the states........No re-mapping or filters etc needed...The performance is a lot better and ajustable too.! Massive weight reduction etc......http://www.hardrockmotorsports.com

Murray. Fit a K&N mate, theres no point in opening the bike up at the back & not helping it breathe better at the front it makes a massive amount of difference, you probably will need the fuelling tweeked a bit but nothing Perry cant do for you at John Pease's for £20 in his pocket ;)
I had the Standard ECU remapped on mine (Also done at Pease's for £20 when the bike was in for service) & after the K&N & the can it was putting out 8 horses more. (Got the dyno print out to prove it as well)
So yep it's def worth doing but, up to you if you want to, if you just want the noise fit the can, If you want the performance as well, add a K&N & a remap.

Think i'll do that but in stages, fit the can, wait a a month or so and then sort it out, makes me feel like im spending a little less. Looking at getting the akra can from the US, just trying to number crunch to find out whether shipping and customs will sting me for more than its worth. Made a sweet saving on my leathers from the US tho!

Asuming you have a warranty before you do anythin check that you will not invalidate it by not allowing the main dealer to fit the can for you.
Alot of dealers will insist that you have them fit and dyno the bike or else will try and wriggle out of any warranty issues that may come up.
Putting a can on the bike itself is not an issue, modern bike adjust their fueling to compensate for the extra breathing it can do. Where the bike comes to harm is when over prolonged periods of time the bike runs lean or rich.
This is the reason people fit power commanders. A custom map on a dyno could stop you burning a valve out a few years down the line, generally people fit air filters to allow the top end of the engine to breathe in air as quickly as it exhails.
We have seen increases with some systems of up to 20bhp with all the above, although your gixa will more then likely only see 5-8bhp but a much smoother power delivery.
In answer to your question, you can just fit a can!

Right, should be picking up my new can hopefully tomorrow, K&N is already installed. If I take the route of remapping the standard ECU at Parkinson's, would it be done better if I get a dyno printout at HG's Sunday for them to refer to? I maybe completely wrong here, but thought it was worth asking.

you can get a dyno run done but in all fairness it wont make a blind bit of difference to them unless they are then going to dyno it whilst tuning it, specifically because when they remap the ECU they are only going to smooth it out for what you have fitted.
dyno tuning is a bit different as (although the principal will be the same) in so much as a dyno tuner will be using the comparisons between dyno sheets to see where adjustments are to be made, on an ECU remap they will be using the software and settings to do it within set parameters :)
never hurts to have a willy waving sheet to show what the bike is putting out at the wheel :D
