Southern Cross Aprilia in Kilburn, North West London.

They are probably the best in the South of England when it comes to Aprilia bikes seeing as Don the owner raced a 180bhp RSV ;)

Prices are pretty much unbeatable too ;)

Tell em Mick Woods recommended you speak to them and they should look after you properly :)

Definitely worth the short trip for you around the M25/North Circular as anyone from here that has used them will agree ;)

I have had quotes of just over £300 from The Aprilia Centre in Commercial Road and Newcombes in Chelmsford. Anyone had any experience of these?

Have had a quote of over £400 from Hyside so they are out!

I,ve never been impressed with my dealings with newcombes, couldn`t even supply me with correct plug caps for my aprilia! even argued with me when I said they were wrong, and got huffy when he was proved wrong!
I try not to use them.
I used ollie at rieds, just down the rd, for my oil pump.
but gotta say- do it yourself! its not that difficult, more time consuming.
hardest bit on the Falco was to get one of the bolts off the head, used one of those bendy adaptors for this.

Time & ability are factors in servicing myself. I would be ok for most of the service, but not having worked on any engine myself for years, would probably struggle with the valves.

On the time front - I am self employed so would lose too much by not working and weekends I like to dedicate time to my kids. I base this on the fact that both shops are quoting 6-7 hours which would mean about 10-11 for me

Another point - Does anyone know if any specialist tools and shims etc are needed for the valves as I may be able to get a fitter from my local (Suzuki) dealer to do the service as a cash job.

The valves need checking, but I believe it is fairly rare for them to need any shims, this would be a bigger job, and possibly the 6-7 hours.
I did my oil and filters, valves, plugs etc in about 4hrs in total. (shims cold, oil hot).
should be fine if your mates a suzuki fitter, I sure ain,t:grin2

Through Southern Cross i had a full valve service, my suspension setup, a new chain and sprocket kit fitted (supplied by them), and a free dyno run.

For £343 inc vat ;)

Believe it or not the service time for a valve service on an RSV is 3.5 hours according to Aprilia, if you are being charged over the odds i would be asking why its so expensive ;)

cheers for the replies.

I will give southern cross a call but due to time it may have to be one of the more local dealers as I can still get into work for a few hours (office in Brentwood).

For a valve service the bike needs to be cold so most places will either ask for you to drop it off the night before, or if its dropped off in the morning it wont get touched for a few hours.

However if you ask Don nicely he will possibly give you a courtesy "****ter" bike :D

When i have had mine in there though i have dropped it there in the morning, got the tube to work and then collected at the end of the day without any problems :)

Have been recomended a place called TecMoto in Harold Wood.

Will be popping in after work to have a look. Looks ok from the website.

They class themselves as Italian Bike Specialists.

Against Don Planes 14 years of working with Aprilia i doubt they could call themselves Aprilia specialists ;)

(also given that Don Plane has tuned Aprilia that he has raced and won championships on, i would say he is one of the South of Englands authorities on them ;) )

Get a price from TecMoto and then ring Southern Cross, i will be surprised if Don doesnt give you a substantially better price :)

Without knowing their background I wouldn't like to comment on their experience. I don't for one moment question the abilities of Southern Cross but I have to take into consideration the logistics of getting the bike there and then getting back for work.

TecMoto are halfway between home & my office so would suit in that respect, whereas Southern Cross would probably take up at least another half a day of travelling (there & back twice) and being self employed that could mean another full days work lost.

I appreciate your comments and won't make a decision until I have been to TecMoto (didn't make it yesterday) and had a chat with them.

Just got back from going to see TecMoto. Seem ok so booked it in. They will collect (for free) the day before so, as was pointed out, the valves will be cold.

They have only been there for 3 months and are predominately Ducati but have just started doing Aprilia.

Could be taking a chance but hey, someones got too!!

Will give feedback when its done.
