Hi guys,
Basically Ive been toying with the idea of getting a second bike...a "workhorse" if you will.
Recent weather has suggested to me that the ninja isn't really a suitable bike for the wet or for the long ride back to Stafford when I'm actually working. I do own a car, but i don't NEED one. I'm not engaged, no family commitments, no furniture/kid's/dog's to lug around. My weekend kit can be bungeed to the back of the bike with limited problems.
My question really, is is it a false economy to run a winter hack and a sportsbike? Factoring in the purchase and maintenance of another bike. I've been seriously considering something like a Deauville for motorway and bad weather riding, and saving the ninja for showing off...
Any thoughts?
p.s and no im not buying 2E's GT550

What ninja have you got :D
I don't think it's a false economy - if you get a winter hack it's bound to be cheaper than running a sportsbike, and you'll be riding one or the other, not both at the same time.
If it doesn't work out, sell it and get something else. You in a good position in that you don't have any commitments, so go for it!

If your getting a fairly old bike they don't tend to drop in value much. I just sold my winter hack, granted it was only a '98 ER5, but it saw me through the winter all I had to do was buy a battery for it (£37) Sold it for 50 quid more than i paid for it, so it was a £13 profit.....not bad eh? saved the mileage on my gixer and from having to was it everyday!

The weather isn't so much a problem, but the 180 mile motorway journeys aren't the most comfortable. Although its more solid then the 400 used to be, its still not an ideal tool. Saying that i wouldn't get rid of it...just maybe ride something a bit more upright, with a topbox etc for when im not riding for pleasure ;)

There is some mileage in that (did you see what I did there, did ya, did ya?!) - I've got a J2 and until recently it had 65k on the clock!
But you know what it's like doing that mileage - I find it comfortable, but it's the bloody brakes which let it down (just replaced my calipers and might have to replace the discs after only a year, but I'm not bitter).

Thats a lot of miles, mines on about 21k i think. I know its not an all and out sportsbike, but i think it would look stupid with a topbox on as well...
