Ok i might have some funds available for work to the ktm courtesy of fleabay so would just like to ask everyone if they know of a good place to get my oil drain plug heli-coiled as it has been cross threaded and also for the same place to be able to get the second drain plug out as some monkey has rounded it off where the bolt is an awkward size. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys and girls so just post if you can help :)

How rounded is it?
Have you tried those grip-tite sockets that grip the wall of the bolt, not the corners?
What size is the bolt?

I've only got 10 - 19mm of the sidewall gripping type.

If its rounded of it sounds like you are going to have to be abit brutal with it and force a slightly under sized socket on it. Hell its gotta come of some how. Sounds like youve got your work cut out. good luck. Cant think of any other way.

When you say heli-coiled do you mean like rethreaded? Just wondered what it meant that's all.

I've got a 6 sided 22mm socket if you want to try that. They usually shift bolts with rounded off corners.

i think im working from 5 until 9 tuesday but my missus will be in. is there any other day?I'm at college till very late on Wednesday (it's criminal the time I get home, glad it's nearly over), working from home on Thursday and back at work on Friday. Don't spose you work somewhere I could drop it off on the Tuesday, I leave work at 6.30pmish (east London)? Or I could drop it off to your missus, I promise I'm not a mad slobbering axe murderer, except at the weekends.

ok so just to update everybody that helped i finally managed to get the bolt out with a HUGE cracking sound as it loosened off :grin2 that has to be the most satisfying sound i have heard in a while!!! :laugh2
So i have now confirmed that the smaller bolt is really in need of a heli coil as it still weeps oil and the other bolt is a nice new shiny one that i bought.

And they both have new magnets to stop the crud from damaging my engine so hopefully fingers crossed etc i can get some decent oil and then a filter and lockwire the other bolt to stop it coming out and then take the bike up to north weald on sunday :clap:clap:clap

............ as long as it doesnt leak too much oil that is!

today saw me draining the oil out of the ktm and then bleeding the whole system with the new large drain plug and the old small drain plug now has plumbers tape round it which has completely sorted the leaky problem for now until funds are available for the heli-coil to be done! so its on the road at last :) cant wait to find some nice twisty b roads :jumping2
