today my wife had just finish shopping and was loading the car when mrs blue rinse in the car next to her started to come out. mrs blue rinse reversed out of her space and straight into another (parked) car, she went back forward to start again..she then reversed again but started to turn before she was out thus pinning my wife between her car and ours. wifey then started to bang on mrs blue rinse`s roof but she kept on turning. when she got out of the space she just f**ked off. wifey now has badly bruised legs and torn jeans. so should oldies retake a test?

I think she should have got her reg, looked for witnesses and phoned the police. Got to play by the book. But i think the point your trying to make is fair nothing against older drivers and i think i'm either quoting ninjamad or his bro or maybe even 2E when i say if an accident happens and the other driver say's sorry didn't see you it should be classed as driving without due care and attention.

Great thing is, being a women... she'll STILL get cheaper car insurance than us ;)
My fiance turns into a monster when she gets behind the wheel of the car, Road rage doesent even cover it..:shooter
She'll sit in traffic shouting obscenities at any driver thats a inch too close... i actually sit in fear when im in the car.. i feel safer on a road of white van drivers..:grin2
Actually cancel that i was doing a 30mph when a stupid anglian/suffolk white van flys out of a side road in corringham today.. i had to brake hard not to hit him, so hard infact my back end slid with me.. (locked back wheel) its really not funny.. he then flew off down another side road before i had chance to take his reg..:shooter
The one thing i do miss about the GT is the whole police mock up, seeing tossers driving whilst on their mobiles weaving on the road where they cant brake, steer, chat, and try to smoke a fag all at the same time winds me up.:grin3
i used to pull up along side and just watch them through the window, when they turnt to look at me id wave, see them murmur 'Fark' and laugh inside my helmet..:laugh1 i had one bloke who see me and dropped his fone.. a staring contest ensued whilst waiting for the lights to change where he was obviously trying to work out what Garda meant and whether he was going to get nicked or what.. i loved it.. plus if you flicked a magic switch cars moved out your way and you got to your destination a hell of alot quicker...;) Most people dont know what it means.. and its funny to follow the coppers along the newly made path of moved over cars ;)

2E and your answer to the question is ?????
2E and your answer to the question is ?????
Sorry im rambling because im tired... been out all night..
My answer is yes they should, i mean come on.. when they done the test there was a war on.. the examiners just wanted to get back to the bomb shelter:D Back in those days you only had to ride round the block and do an emergency stop for bike tests too..;) lol:laugh1

As it happens 2E I only rode round the block and done an emergency stop on my motorcycle test, the examiner was walking with a clipboard in his hand, bit of a joke really, passed my test on an XL250 at 17 years and 2 weeks old, rode home swapped my XL250 for a GT550 Suzuki (which I had waiting) rode that a few months and bought a 750 F2, all when I was 17,, happy days !
but then I had been riding since the age of 11 and racing since the age of 13 so bikes where not a stranger to me.
I have always thought that its mad to allow any road user to pass a test and then just leave them to it without any form of re-testing or training.
It would go a long way to reducing KSI figures and accidents.
I know someone who passed his car test in the 1950's and is still on the road today. 50 years without even glancing at a highway code. His driving is terrifying.
Re-testing should at least be considered, rather than simply blaming new drivers/riders, but its not going to win many votes for the political party that proposes it.

totaly agree , when I stated taking my driving instructor exams I had to do a driving test , over an hours driving on all types of roads and conditions and it had to be as per the dsa manual with no more than 6 minors, when i was with my instructer doing my lessons , I didnt relise how much I has forgottten or how bad my driving had got,

i think that 8 out of 10 over 50s shouldnt be on the road and im using bike and white van experience to say this
the re test age should be lowered a lot or like Micktls said every 10 years or so.
EDIT;white van,bike,lorry and car

Every ten years?
What about those of us that have a car, car and trailer, bike and lorry license?
Every ten years that means i would have to pay for four different practical tests, with the possibility of re-sits as well...
Plus who would pay all the extra examiners and pay for the extra test centres?

Well i think they should have a retest, but not to the standards kids now have to meet for their first test. My old granddad's an ok driver but he'd have no chance passing another test without a bit of training, and you can't be expecting pensioners to fork out for that. Maybe a mental agility test or something would be better. To make sure they're not all gone upstairs like Mrs Blue Rinse. And Mister E, 50 sounds a bit excessive. 65-70 maybe.

I nearly got taken out on a roundabout last week by an old biddy. I sounded the bikes horn and she jumped out her skin. Not only did she not see me I think she was in a another bloody dimension

im just commenting on what i have seen
Pretty much agreed that there are an awful lot of muppets on our roads then?
So its the muppets and not the decent road users who need to be targetted.
How about:
Enforcement. Police get less obsessive on speed issues and concentrate more on poor standards of driving generally (tailgating, positioning, ability, aggressive/careless driving etc). Reduce police paperwork and "fast-track" offenders.
Gain six points or more in any 2 year period and have the option of getting dealt with by the courts as normal or re-training and taking a mini test at the end of it at your own expense (no additional points if you pass). 3 attempts at mini test or you are back at the bus stop.
Over 60s must take a basic medical (sight, reactions, health, mental agility) before licence reissue.
Driving Standards Agency (driving examiners)to recognise that clamping down on new road users is not the holy grail of road safety, realise that there are other bad drivers using the roads and take a more positive & direct approach to the driving standards of all road users.
Self financing, targets bad drivers, good drivers have nothing to fear.
Just my two pence worth.

i still think you should re-test. my dad turns 65 this year, he's physically very fit, and mentally perfectly agile, he use to drive normally but now he does all sorts of awful things, like dring 40mph everywhere [ you know the type] and just randomly pulling out in front of people at roundabouts cos he's been waiting long enough. when you ask him why he did that he just syas yeh yeh yeh..... theres a bit of the I'm older so i get respect and a place in the front of the queue just because. you'll have to stick them in a car and watch them.
and who's doing the medicals ? more to the point who pays ? most GP's will charge you £90 for a HGV/PCO medical.:o
Not got all the answers there, Firehorse. If I had, I would be running the country and Prudent Gordy could go and play with some crayons out of harm's way.
But would'nt it be nice if road users had to have a basic standard of health and maintain a reasonable level of competence before they ventured out onto the highways?

random thought as well, why doesnt the DVLA have a 'report a really crap driver ' phone line / website area. so at least if you see someone who reallllly looks as thought they are permanently on another planet then at the least they could query any medical conditions [ reporting has to be done by the person - not their doctor which is of course stupid ....]

They should really, lorrys and such have signs on the back of their vehicles which says 'hows my driving? Call 0****'
I reckon there should be one of these for cars too.:grin2
