Ok the zip on the bottom leg of my leathers decided to go yesterday.. which i didnt really care too much about just means i cant do them up and can't be assed to get them repaired..:reading

Anyway.. i want to replace them with a pair of Kevlar jeans..(look like a twat with leathers on a tourer anyway;)) the two best makes ive heard of are 'Hood' and 'Draggin Jeans'

I've heard better things about the Hood ones tbh but does anyone/has anyone used a brand here that they want to sing praises about??:rockon

Want to know 3 main things

1) Who makes the best jeans?? ( Hood, Draggin or other)
2) Which pair to buy, and how accurate are the sizes??
3) Whats the difference between woven and knitted Kevlar??

i have a pair of hood jeans that i wore to north weald sunday. woven kevlar down to where the tops of your boots are. They are quite heavy but still better than leathers and i find them really comfortable

I just prefer Leathers! Do the Jeans have CE approved armour in them? Fook what you look like mate! i used to wear full leathers whilste commuting to work on the scooty puff everyday! It did 80 fr christsa sakes.....coming off at that speed will hurt regardless of what i was riding! Almost got my knee down on it to! Got the exhaust and the pillion pegs down lol

we've both got a pair of draggin jeans. cooler than leathers . but i'm sure dont do as good a job if you come off. the website had some fun footage of them draggin blokes around on them.. size wise a bit off, the mens 34 in waist seems to be a perfect girls fit.. try some on ?? :love1

I've got a pair of Voto kevlar jeans They are great. And yes I have had a spill while wearing them although was only slow speed there was not a tear on the jeans and I only had a few bruises. Well worth it and you can put in the extra knee protectors if you wish. I dont as I get too hot with them in..

Stick to leathers. End of debate, in my opinion.

Try falling off at 80 2E & see what good they do you....

decent kevlars tend to work out at the same price as cheap leathers, read into that what you will but leather isnt always the best option when you are on a budget, kevlar is stronger than leather full stop, if it wasnt we would all have leather helmets instead of carbon/kevlar composite ;)

there are plenty of people that wear and survive an off wearing kevlar jeans, just as there are plenty that have worn cheap leathers and still lost plenty of skin.

the difference being is that whilst you may get away with skimping a tad on the leathers, you wont with kevlar, it needs to be decent or nothing ;)

one of the biggest bonuses of leathers though is that they tend to hug the leg and not flap about, a pair of jeans can quite easily ride up and all that slack material flapping about is only going to add to the odds against your skin ;)

Thanks for that lateshift.. and bearing in mind my leathers which have gone cost me £100 quid for both jacket and trousers.. not sure how great they would be in a crash..:grin2

The Hood jeans, you can get made to fit for no extra cost.. so the extra flapping about you talk about can be rectified... dont think you can do that with the Draggin

Yeah but do you really want to look like Suzi Quattro with skin tight jeans on? :D

hmmmm cancel that as you wouldnt ;) :D

but you could go for the cafe racer look with the socks over the boots to go with retro look on your bike ;) :D

If you come of wearing a decent set of leathers you'll slide to a stop , hopefully getting a away with a few bruises. Have the same off wearing kevlar jeans and you'll slide for a bit , they'll bunch up and you'll start bouncing up and down on the tarmac and start breaking bits. Thats why I don't wear them

that's a massive assumption i take it?

i came off the back of an XS650 that was doing 30 when it got shunted from behind by a Peugot 205 doing 60 (caught in a Coppers speed trap too :D ) and was wearing Army lightweight trousers and boots, a pair of bike gloves and a fleece over my work shirt, the rider of the bike was in full leathers and got exactly the same injuries as me.

to say that if you come off wearing a pair of leathers you will slide to a stop hopefully getting a few bruises is not only a guess at best but also factually incorrect as no two accidents are the same, the only thing that is factual, is that you will slide ;)

Wearing leathers doesnt stop you getting gravel rash 100%, it certainly doesnt stop you getting burnt from the friction generated by leather on tarmac either, and lastly leather grips just aswell to kerbs as kevlar does, you hit any bit of furniture once your off the bike and the only thing that leather is guaranteed to do, is actually keep the bits together ;)

There was plenty of testing that went on with Kevlar for MotoGP and other bike racing, the suits themselves work well enough but were never trusted to save from serious high speed crashes, whereas leather gave a more tried and trusted approach, however most bike suits incorporate kevlar now in areas where you generally think are less vulnerable.

I agree with Lateshift on this, Leathers will only slide for so long, take my off for example, that was at some speed (Not saying what) they worked a treat & i'll never be without them again ever but, eventually they gave way & ground straight through to my shoulder & they were Arlen ness leathers not cheap ones. If i was wearing Textiles i would of been ****ed....Hospital even made a point of telling me a story of someone with textiles that slid down the road & the story was quite shocking...

I got draggin jeans, there ok, but work best with a wick away EDZ suite underneath this stops the kevlar scratching ya knees etc. I use em on short shop runs when the sun is at its hottest only and the like personally wouldnt like to fall off with them on a speed though... ya cant beat a bit of plastic where ya knees are. So why not strap some kneesliders over the jeans I hear somepeople say. But as yet no one does a denim coloured slider or do they?:grin3 and yeh leathers may get hot but they are the best in the end and feel more natural..... on the bike.

You can get approved armour to fit the kevlar draggin jeans exactly the same as leathers.:grin2

Yes but what the heck ya still gonna get wet if it rains and oo ouch implants would agrivate the kevlar to flesh syndrome which as you can see I havn't overcome yet...:laugh1

the abrasion resistance of kevlar jeans is no wear near as good as decent leathers- if you don't believe me check the RiDE magazine tests. Kevlar will only stop the jeans tearing so easily ,it is not a "tough" material
