So get on my CBR400 NC17 and wind her up and at 8-9000 rpm the revs go up and the bike dont...slipping clutch obviously, it does not happen in any other gear....so.....
Is this the first sign that the clutch is on its way out or is it a case of adjustment?

Also

Is changing the clutch a home maintenance job or something best left to the experts?

Your help would be appreciated.

not too sure, but i take it u were riding till the revs got to 8-9rpm then when the poweband kicks that little bit more it slips,

u were saying about adjustment- u havent over tightend the adjuster on the clutch lever have ya? (or had a friend sit on ya bike n mess with it without u knowing,it happens till u go ape shii at them, they wont touch it again.) screw it in then back out till it just takes up the slack of the cable inside! if its still tight when screwed in then slacken the other end a bit.

is it a wet clutch? maybe the oil may need changing due to it being old dirty n thin as water. just an idear as 1st gear will have a lot of tork for take off.

oh u said about fitting a new one, well if that is the case i prefer to do all the work on my own bike, some maybe tricky n sum may be complicated n stressfull but when its done makes u feel better,u get to see parts u wouldnt usually see n look for wear n tear, learn a bit more about ya bike which makes a good convosation when ya down the pub with the money u saved!!! BONUS!!! :D

Thanks for that.....I will try the oil change first!

Dont laugh too loudly but when you drain the oil is it a simple case of refilling up to the mark on the dipstick. I have not had an oil cooler before and there are no Haynes manuals for my model! So I am working blind on everything!
