Hey peoples!
I've got a 50cc sachs madass. Its very slow, the fastest iv got it to is 40mph!!!! That was downhill with the wind behind me.... lol!
I was wondering if there is a way to derestrict it so it goes a little bit faster, but not too much. I'm only 16 so I don't really want to get caught...
Cheers
Look sliek a cool little thing (For a PED!!)
I will get on the case this evenign and find out what you need to do!

K cheers. It's ok. The lights keep failing though. I almost got hit by a lorry a couple of days ago because they failed :?
I just found this Info on a site:
We have now put together a 75cc bore-up kit for the Sachs Madass. When fitted to our Madass we managed to boost performance from the standard 30mph up to about 45mph.
The kit is £239.99 and contains a new barrel, piston, carburettor & manifold. Click here for full details.
So you are doing well to get the thing to do 40 on it.
75cc Quick Conversion Kit for Sachs Madass Ref: Sachs-75cc
The kit includes:
- Cast iron 75cc cylinder & high compression piston
- Carburettor & manifold
- Front drive sprocket & DID chain
- Non-restricted CDI
- Spark plug
- Gaskets
The kit comes with instructions & uses the original cylinder head
From looking at this list I would say that the CDI unit is restricted so you cant rev out or the timing is messed up at high revs. You might want to look at getting another CDI unit.
There is alos the exhaust. Have a look for a little pipe on the exhaust that does nothing. Just a resonant pipe with the end welded up. This will want chopping off and welding back up.

I have been overtaken by bmx's before  lol!
There isn't a pipe on the exhaust that I can cut off, I know what you mean though. Scooters have them.
My exhaust is thin but has got a fat bit in it, then it goes back to being thin. Heres a picture of the bit im on aboot.
http://www.freewebs.com/mufawa/Stuff/Exhaust.jpg
Could that be restricting it as well? I'm a proper n00b to all of this!
Is the CDI different for each bike? Do they cost loads? I'm fairly dumb :?
I dont think your exhaust will be made to restrict it by the looks of that pic. The fat bit looks liek its to help the gasses. Knows as an Expantion chamber.
The CDI is an electronic box that decides when your spark plug should spark. A resricted one will make the bike spark at the wrong time at higher revs so you loose power top end.
You could get yours re-programmed but I wouldn't know where to go for that.

Do you think that I could get the CDI reprogrammed at a garage?
If so would it cost me loads? would it be easier if I got a new CDI unit?
aaaahhhhhh so many questions!!! lol!
cheers for helpin be by the way!
Its quite a specialized subject. You might get some garages that can do it.
See if you can find out how much a CDI would cost.
In that Kit you get a lot of things for £230 so I would think the CDi would be a fraction of that cost.

Its only £25 that 1. I reckon dats wot I need! :P

Free reving CDI for £25 sounds like a good investment to me

just a thought...Is that thing manual, or twist and go? you say ped, so i assume twist and go.has it got a chain or just a big enclosed bit? if its the later and it feels heaverly restricteditle have a ring in-between the clutch barrels! take this out and it will go 45 every time! with out the cdi box changed! lol i might have a zxr 400 one knocking about somewhere! have a look at the left side of ya bike to see whats up! and let me know!
It doesn't look like it has a ped gearbox from the lil pic in his avatar.
They are usually nylon washers that restrict the drive band from getting to a ratio where a high speed is capable. they are like pulley wheels with weights on. The faster the pulleys spin the weights are pulled outwards and allow the band to travel futher up or down the pulley wheels.
Like on your push bike with cogs but on a tapered pulley.
Imagine being stuck on the small cog at the front all the time and not being able to click up to the bigger cog when your up to speed.

Your best is to get a 72cc kit, a big valve head and suitable carb, along wth the free revving CDi.
The 72cc kits are available with 49cc stamped on them to keep parents/plod happy.
The easy way is to get a complete motor and swap it over, it can be done in under an hour with basic tools.
I run one of these engines and I've been clocked at 55mph with off road gearing.
as for reliabilty, the 72cc engine will be just as reliable as the 50, as long as its maintained properly.
What did you pay for the madass, I think they are pretty fun looking machines.
Hi,
Anyone still interested in this thread, as I have just bought a Madass and I am quickly learning a bit about them. However I don't live in Essex, is that a problem?
As a 40something, I have had a string of Honda's and Yams over the years. I sold my last two 1979 RD400's last year when I gave up biking:grin2
Just bought the Madass for a bit of fun.
The 50cc engine is very similar to a Honda 50 OHC engine as fitted to an SS50 in the 70s (which I had a lot of enjoyment with at the time).
My Madass had (note the past tense) a rev limiter in the form of some electronic gizzmo wired across the coil. It seemed to short the coil out at higher (but not high) rev's. This equated to 32MPH precisely in top gear. Removing it makes it rev better, but still runs out of steam too quickly.
So the next thing was to gear up. The final drive sprocket was 11 teeth and having got the drive ratios from the manual, I calculated that the engine should pull the bike and me (12 stone) to 40MPH with 14 tooth sprocket. I got one from Mortimers Monkey bikes for about £10 (inc. p&p) It was easy to fit and the chain was just long enough. My rear tyre fouled the mudguard with the wheel adjusted so I modified the guard slightly.
Result, the bike is smoother and less frantic, though not quite as fast accelerating as it was but it needs a bit of a back wind to reach the magic 40 figure.
I think I am going to bore up in the next couple of weeks, though it looks like I will need a new carb too, perhaps a 22mm as used to be fitted to the old Honda CB125s.
Watch this space,

First off the carb and air box need to be removed as there is a grommet on the underside of the airbox which needs to be pulled out. also change the main jet from a 47.5 to 52 . put a new front sprocket with 13 teeth cost 6 quid and remove the rev limiter in front of the battery box it has a brass screw next to a block connector. check that when the choke is off on the handlebar that the flap is fully horizontal at the carburetor. on mine it was still slightly restricting the air flow cos the cable was slightly too short ! all of the above things are cheap to do and mine will now do 65 kph/ 40mph.
And Thats just a starter.:rockon

if you live in gloucester can you get to bromsgrove???..... if so there is a shop there that will do everything possible to your bike.... a mate of mine had his moped took there and they put it on the rolling road and they reckon he was pushing 70mph.... when i say they do everything i mean it.... it doesnt cost to much either..... much cheaper than buying a bore kit sports exhaust and new cdi

Thanks for the thoughts Puzzle.
I never got to the point of the big bore kit. However I did do a bit more tinkering before turning to indoor pastimes (what a softy!).
As standard, the throttle slide cannot open far enough. So last year I (carefully) cut 5mm off it and that gave it a bit more umph.
I will try removing the grommet as you suggest and get hold of a bigger jet too.
I was toying with going the whole hog and buying a 110cc engine on ebay. There are a couple of suppliers who can do a brand new replacement for as little as £99.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

What is better the 72cc kit, or the 85cc kit ???
I am after the torque so for me the 72cc would mean that it would rev like mad. but the 85cc kit would mean you could cruse at 50mph happy. ??!!

It's sooo nice!
Really nice deep sound.
Here's what i've got: http://www.ooracing.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=523
Bare in mind they're getting a new japanese range in this year some time. Check out their front page.
It is the right bore size & fits like a dream, all it needs is a custom mount. Easy to make out of a strip of aluminium or something.
Tell me how it goes!

What exactly does a timing chain do and what do you need the adjuster for?
Bit new to all this, and could do with knowing as much as possible for when i start mine!
I look forward to seeing how it looks when it's attached anyway, get some pics up when you can.
I'll get one of my exhaust tonight.

All bolted together and runs sweet had a "small" problem, timing was out by 90 degrees but all okay now.
Dude the timing chain is the chain that turns the cam to open the values you "need" to get that right or it will never start, the thing you dont want it to do is to get it wronge and then the piston will hit the value's and then it is $#@ed.
You got a manual???
If you need a hand i'll try and talk you though it.

Hi, remember me?
Well I talked the big bore kit options through with Adrian at OORacing and decided to stump up the 200 plus notes for the 72cc piston and barrel, big valve head, carb, filter and new drive train.
All fitted without any real issues apart from
i) didn't get a rocker cover gasket, and I damaged the old one (wouldn't you just know it) which delayed the rebuild until OORacing kindly supplied one FOC.
ii) the head is silver which doesn't match the rest of the bike.
iii) can no longer use the handlebar mounted choke lever, so I removed it.
iiiv) the choke lever sticks out at right angles and looks silly, so I will modify that this weekend.
The head incidentally appears identical (valve size, cam profile etc) as one I had from a 1974 Honda C50.
It's not quite run in yet, but the whole bike is sooooo different now. 45-50MPH is easilly achieveable and acceleration much improved. I can now keep up with the traffic round town and on A roads and it is quieter too (appart from when the throttle is opened!).
Over the past 3 months I have had to replace the speedo under warranty, which a kind man at Harrogate M/C's sorted for me (even though I didn't buy the bike there). I have also broken the LH front indicator when the bike fell over (pesky side-stand). 3XMotorcycles supplied the necessary parts for £15. Finally the back light went faulty, but that was tracked to a dry joint under the seat.
Now I nearly have it how I want it. Quick enough for my trips into town and quirky enough to draw admiring glances and shouts of 'what the f*cks that' as I buzz by. Bring on the Summer!

Hi Imp
That is what i did too broke the rocker gasket.
But I made my "rocker gasket" out of a Corn Flake Box (hehe). Due to when I went to the a motor factor and asked for a sheet of gasket paper they looked at me as if to say he is taking the micheal.
My MadAss is doing the same speed 45mph-52mph as long as they is NO head wind.
I found OOracing VERY VERY good and helpful.
Indicators on mine are still there but I am going to replace them for LED one's.
Ooohh watch your kill switch a wire fell of the back of the switch (one of the two earth wires) which was falling down when onto the live and cutting the engine out every now and then.
And Tuesday last week the indicator switch thought it would mess about to.
"Trying" to find replacement switchs at the mo due to only bodging so it works.
Want to see a picture of the little beast.
