some intersting news discovered %$"^%£^$ :D

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4222357.stm

"The combination of engine management system and wireless communications also gives governments a way to enforce speed limits that no-one can escape.

Mr Illsley said all the technology to do this is available now.

For instance, the Institute of Transport Studies at the University of Leeds is currently in the middle of a six-year project to evaluate an intelligent speed adaptation system that keep cars to a prescribed speed limit.

But, says Mr Illsley, once you have road signs that can control an engine and slow a car down 'it's no longer a technical issue, it's a social issue about how we want to apply the rules'. "

that's not a bad idea, but what about all the toys that would still be on the roads that didnt have speed gizmos to slow them down...would they become illegal?

the technology has been around for years, no one has the balls to implement it yet tho.

The last time I read about it they were saying all vehicles would have to have the devices fitted, would be part of the MOT requirement :( and if the vehicle couldnt have a device fitted it wouldnt get an MOT. Suffice to say many unhappy people and no government was/is gonna put its genitalia on the block for that one

I think that it would be good for all vehicles to have this eqipment fitted, so that when you are in a 30 limit, the vehicle won't go over 30, etc. .........But, you put an overide button in so that the system can be overridden.

So if you use the system you will be within the limit without watching the speedo all the time, if you wanna go faster you hit the override button, then if you get caught speeding you have no defence, you pressed the button you KNEW you were gonna go over the limit.

So I'm not suggesting we have a nanny state where you can't go over the limit, but you have the tools to enable you to stay within the limit, and going over takes a deliberate action

what a stupid idea. they just need more traffic cops and for riders/drivers to stick to the around town limits they're there for a reason.
