Hi!

Well, got me a 1989 NC30 and today was the first time I've ridden on the road since passing my test - well, to cut a long story short, I nearly died!

I felt the back end weaving about the place and I honestly thought that I had a flat rear tyre or that the back wheel was coming loose.

Stopped the bike and saw petrol flooding down the engine over the hot exhausts and back tyre. Quickly turned the tap off - but to no avail - the petrol still kept pouring out.

Luckily, no flames appeared but it was a tense few mins as the petrol hissed over the hot engine and exhausts.

AA bloke came - lifted the tank to see a nice 50p size blister of RUST that had given way and emptied the whole tank contents onto the road. Nice!

Outwardly, the tank looks fine - you would never guess that this might happen.

So - after that - can anyone help me get back on the road with a new tank?

Colours are white and two-tone blue as shown below:

Cheers,

Jules

Yup - it was amazing that the back end was squirming around so much that it felt like a flat tyre - so you can guess how fast the fuel must have been gushing out for it to have that effect!! :o

There is a tank on eBay right now which I'll keep an eye on. Not sure what these things go for though....

Thanks for the reply,

Jules

If its a good one itll make a fairly hefty price.

Its a common colour scheme and so good panels/parts are sought after

Hi Biker Dude!

Thanks for the reply - I did see your ad on eBay but but was really after a bolt on replacement - i.e. no painting required...!

I guess as time goes on now, I might find that its an impossible task... but for the moment, I'll try and hang out for a white and blue one.....

Ta vee much,

Jules

Took the day off today to work on the bike (roll on lighter evenings!) and saw that the hole/perferation was right above the rear cylinder head. It could poss be fixed but I dont think I'd trust it.

Anyway, DK Motorcycles came up trumps as they had one in the right colours off the shelf. £80 + a tenner p&p.

Cool! Should hopefully be back on the road by this weekend! :D

Thanks for your help guys...

£90 for a tank!

No Way Dude!

I know - but bear in mind I just paid £1300 for a 1989 bike - something that would normally be priced in the low hundreds... and £1300 was less than half the price of some of the other NC30's I looked at! They seem to hold their price well, and this is reflected in the 2nd hand spares prices.

So far thats £90 for a tank, £100 for a good exhaust, £125 for new chain and sprockets, £25 for exhaust gaskets and clamps.

Well, at least I've been through it with a fine tooth comb now - and I know whats under the skin and what it needs etc.

Only thing I need to do now is sort the paint out on the white wheels which is peeling/chipped and also the stone chips on the fairing.

Easy!

Nice!

So is that just normal paint?

How long do you reckon it will stay on? Reckon it will survive a jet wash?!?!

There is a plce in Maldon that does powder coating of motorcycle wheels for £30 a wheel - which includes blasting off the old stuff.... jsut got to strip your wheels down and hand em over.

The cheek of it!

It was done professionally. Shot blasted first. Then primed. The sprayed Metalic pait. Then it was given a top coat lacquer to make sure it wouldn't chip off and to give it some extra shine.

Will it stand a power wash.
