anyone checked tapets before

What type have you got on yer GSXR Spanky, is it shims?

Checking them is fairly easy, you set the engine to a pre-determinned position, as stated in the manual (tdc for instance) then you check the clearances specified in the manual with feeler guages.

The idea with feeler gauges is the gap should be just right so that the guage is a snug fit but not pinching the guage, so if you feel the guage go in as you insert it, but it is free moving once inserted, that is right.

Having shown him what to do, he is confident enough to do it himself now.
