Hey
Well the most comon faults on the old english tzr ( sorry didnt literaly mean old lol) anyway the main faults are
1:The headlight switch gear usually stops working at around 36k miles
2:The wheel bearings need replacing every 5000 miles give ya wheels a shake u shouldnt have any play in them
3:The bleed nipples on the brake calipers seize solid
4:the worst thing is the swinging arm roller bearing and sleave nobody and i mean nobody ever checks these and once they have worn away the sleve slowly works its way through the swingarm its self ..
5:Front fork seals are terrible expect to change them every 5-10k its not actually the fork seals that are to blame its the shody chrome ont he forks themselves it flakes off and the pits left make easy work of wrecking the fork seals ..
6:finnaly the crank usually blows out depending on rider and history of course but they usually need replacing at 38k miles plus possible worn gear dogs that may also need replacing ull know these because it will keep jumping out of gear ..
saying all that the tzr if treated properly is a very reliable bike i thrashed mine to the south of wales ( and i mean thrashed ) and all the way home i live in the midlands btw and it didnt miss a beat i had the poor lil thing for 3 years before i fiannly got rid of it and where did it go ?
well my lil brother had it as his first motorcycle and he has still got it now 2years on he's had to replace the piston and rings once and thats about it ... and that was due to him riding it with absolutly no 2 stroke oil the tit .. lol
its now got 48k miles on the clock now and the only major thing thats been changed is the crank and the mains
hope this has helped .. hehe
gl and ride safe
What about tzr125r?
Same?

Haha i wish nar just about everything that could go wrong on my mrs TzrR has gone wrong (But then it has done 25k miles in the past 18months! :S )
First problem i had with the Tzr125r was the left fork seal went which was a right bugger to sort as i didnt have a tool to remove the fork spring and release the lower leg of the fork so i made one out of an old 21mm spark plug socket .. anyway got that sorted (AFTER WAITING FOR AGES FOR THE SPARES TO ARRIVE) ..
Next thing to start playing up was the highbeam switchgear the copper connector had slowly been pushed through the plastic it is seated in :S easy fix with some epoxy resin but what a pain in the arse to put back together ..
The next thing to mess me about was the wheel bearings now ethier where i live they make shody wheel bearings but what ever the case this bike goes through them like a KH750 goes through petrol! Same as the old tzr ever 5k miles or there abouts ..
Then we come to the engine now my gf dosnt ride the bike hard i can tell this cuz everytime i get on it there are clouds or 2stroke following me for at least 4 miles but when i get on it i give it a good thrashing .. and as a result it gone through not 1 but 2 engines the first engine was a TZRr but the second the one its using now while the other is being repaired is a DTR125R engine with a moded TZRr cylinder barrel and head which went quite well for a while lol  but because ive been using it for work since i sold my rd350 and i like to see 120mph on a 125 ive since thrown the crank out so thats yet another engine destined for the scrap heap..
I think when her other engine is up n running ill keep off it lol or at least ride it sensibly lol ..
Tires vary it all depends on quality and compound but She has only managed to go through 1 1/2 sets of boots in the last 18 months (25k miles )
Chains and sprocket sets arnt to bad 8k miles or so thats on a DID Oring Chain and sprocket set ..

No problemo Spider
The Tzr 250 is an excellent handling bike for its age 45 bhp not 60 bhp like ive seen u put somewhere in another post :( sorry to tell ya this but hey it still goes like stink ..
the motor can run to 35k roughly the same as the tzr125, when most everything needs attention. Does 60-70k with a couple of engine rebuilds but it’s hard to tell when the motor’s going to blow as is with any 2 stroke ..
The only other real problem is the quick wearing mono-shock bearings, almost the exact same problem as the Tzr125 mind ya it is just a larger version, Rotting brakes are also another problem as the paint jobs on the calipers looks like its been done by a group of nursey kids
Other problems are most Tzr250s have been thrashed, crashed and neglected its hard to tell even if the cosmetics are in top condition as replacment parts are fairly cheap .. and easy to get hold of ..
The only other main problem with these bikes is they dont i
repeat "DONT" like the rain get ya self a decent set of spark plug caps ones thats seals well and make sure the high tention leads arnt close enough to arc off anything when wet ..
Other than that have fun riding it :)

Its not the size of ya bike its how ya use it

lol sorry misspelling and its 50bhp not 60 i dont think i have ever posted 60bhp!!! but thank you Dr Fubar and as for me engine it has 22k on it and has had a rebuild i think quite recently as when i had to pick it up from dorset the previuos owner told my dad to take it slow for the first 500 miles or so as he thinks it has just had a new engne rebuild!

Hehe yeah sorry my mistake u did post it as 50bhp not 60 .. it is 45bhp but the power to weight ratio is still brilliant even at 45bhp and it wouldnt take much more than replacing the exhuasts ( micron/arrows/jollymoto)
to get another 5-10 bhp with a small amount of tinkering to the carbs
but who needs it its quick enuff as it is right :)
22k and a full engine rebuild u lucky git!! :)

Hi i have a TZR125R and i'm finding it difficult to find the parts on Yamaha's parts database, can anyone help? Also the bike when it is running the rear locks up at about 60 mph and engine stalls, i believe this is caused with piston ring problems. has anyone had this problem before? Please advise.
