View Full Version : MOT in Essex?

It's first MOT time for my SV650K2 and I am a little worried......

I have noisy (not race) twin Rene's, a tinted double bubble and dinky winkas.

I cannot be arsed with getting the bike back to standard - the cans alone would take me all day - so where can I go to get an MOT that will turn a blind eye to my mods?

I have all the standard bits and I dont mind even taking them along to prove this to a tester.

I was told there was one in Gale Street in Dagenham, but they no longer do Bike MOT's...

help......

I go to a place in Heybridge, just past Chris Pryke's bike shop heading towards Heybridge basin, on the left.

Laws have changed about race cans, they don't have to be E-marked, they just can't say 'not for road use' on them, or 'track use only'.

So if it's got that, polish it out sharpish, and then it's up to the testers disgression if it's too loud or not.

The mini 'dicators and the screen are fine.

Mine's road legal, it's a NETA one (cheap ****)

At the end of the day you've got very little to lose by putting it in for an MOT with those cans on.

Don't take it to hadlers, they're very thorough, which is normally a good thing, but not when you're trying to pull a slight fast one.

Take it to this place in Heybridge, I rekon you'll be fine.

One of the comments above says the law has changed about the markings on the cans. Does this apply to all bikes, or those before a certain year?

I'm in the same predicament with an RG500, with ex-works Suzuki GP cans - they are F loud above 3000 rpm, but no markings at all. (They are carbon/titanium beauties weighing 6 ounces each). So would they pass do you think?

im sure if you take it to the right place itll pass. just try and get a tester that loves strokers.

It's up to the tester's judgement if it's too loud. Not heard of one failing yet for being too loud though.

depends on ur tester..but by law if its louder or lets the gases out faster then it's illegal.

If you stick to the letter of the law yes.

In practise, that'd never happen.
