hi im new and i have a Question

hey fellas im new. reason im here. i been in to moddin cars for a year or so now. got a 1.6 8v clio. and basicly. its pants innit. i always wanted a bike. when ever we go racin there is always some bike that ****es allover all the cars there :) so i wanna get on a bike. i have about 15 grand to my name, 2years ncb and a clean car licence.

been drivin since i was 17. im now 19. be 20 this august.

how do i get my self road legal for bikes? can i ride bikes of any size from my car license or am i limited to a scooter (please god not a scooter)

a friend of mine said i gotta take 2 tests or somthing. 1 for nothin over 125cc then after 2 years i take another test which lets me ride any bike i want.

so just basicly i need accurate info on how i can get my self started.

Glad to hear you are into cars aswell as bikes - i am interested in cars and bikes and have both at long last which is wicked!

I personally took my Direct Acces motorbike test the other day - I have been riding bikes since i was 16 - legally at first and on and off since my CBT ran out a few years back! <shhhh!> lol!

Unfortunately you will not be able to ride big bikes until you are 21 or have 2 years riding since taking your test. However, all is not lost - The test you can take at 19 years old enables you to ride anything up to 33Bhp if i remember correctly, which includes big bikes but they have to be restricted. Then after 2 years im not sure whether you are automatically allowed to ride bigger bikes or like your mate said, you might have to take another test. this just makes sure you are still safe on the road and also able to handle riding a bigger unrestricted bike.

Firstly, however, you will need to take Compulsory Basic Training <CBT> which is to train you the basics of motorcylce riding on the roads to ensure that you are safe. Then you will be able to ride a 125 until you take extra lessons, pass your test, and can ride a restricted big bike! :D

I think this is reasonably accurate - if i am wrong then i apologise and will be gladly corrected! :)

i can wait 2 years :) i was gonna wait 2 years and get some me self some big bad bmw 3.0 inline 6. which is about 230bhp. :)

but i would prefer a bike :)

im a manchester bloke me self. but a friend of mine showd me the "bang bang bang" thing form here. so i thought id post any way :) as i dont know of any northwest biker sites.

Ello mate, welcome to the forum un all that.

I also am not 100% sure, but am pretty confident you just need to do a CBT on a 125cc and then do a direct access course on a 33bhp bike. You can then, as long as you pass, ride a restricted 400cc bike, but most people just have 250's. Once you turn 21, i think you can just ride anything without having to take another test.

although... i do remember reading somewhere that when I took my test, i had to do it on a 45bhp bike to be able to ride anything....

What id recommend you do is take your CBT and ride about on a 125 for a year, then when you turn 21, do a direct access course on a 45bhp bike and your free to ride what you want.

As for places that do CBT's Manchester, i'll have a look about see if i can find anything.

If you do decide to have a 125 for a year, Aprillias RS125's are fairly nice bikes, but I wouldnt recommend you buy one new as they are 4k from a dealer and they'll only give you 2k in a part ex after a year.
Honda NSR's are nice, and of course the Italian TZRR Yamahas are pretty cool as long as you get a decent one.

I can also give you a list of bikes for which you can buy restrictor kits so basically you can ride a **** hot big bike thats completely strangled by a restrictor kit while you are limited to 33 Bhp and then have it removed and kill yourself when you hit the power difference

You can get a VFR 400 and restrict those to 33 bhp, cos my bikes previous owner done it.

To be honest, theres not really much chance of anyone finding out if you didnt restrict the bike, but dat would be illeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeegal :)

hmmm dunno about that actually 'cos i know they have to do some sort of paperwork that they send away when they restrict your bike cos my m8 did it, i suppose you could buy one that was restricted and take restriction out tho? might be a way round it? will try y and find out what the mystery "paperwork" is and let everyone know.

Grrr maybe thats because it is 50bhp is that a lot for a 250?? anyway im getting a restricter kit fitted for mine then taking it off he he just need me dealer to send the certificate off to the insurence company then just got to not get pulled over by the PoLice! if not run and ride like hell he he then get caught !!!! anyways i think im gonna ply midnight club 2!!!

Not true! If you pass your test at 17 on a 125 you only have to be restricted to 33bhp for 2 years. My mate is 19 and has an FZR750 on full power.

Go book a cbt,then get the biggest mutha ****a bike dont listen to ppl here u can ride anything :wink: promise ! the best advice i can give u on riding like a GOD as u do in ur car :wink: keep feet well away from rear brake....then whack the throttle open full(if u know where it is) and this is sure to impress alll ur mates and the lasses with the biggest wheelie ever !


Ur mens room sounds great,will give us very few girls a break from u :wink: the errrr picture of body parts thing.............well i aint that stupid but it may work on other girls :P good luck on that one!!
