just to a prove a point to my mate... (who failed his driving test today), is there only a certain amount of passes the instructors are allowed to give each month?????

There are no set limits for who can pass, people just dont pass the test first time and make excuses.
I believe the pass rate is something like 43%,
stop the conspiracy theories!

thankyou! try telling my mate that, he genuinelly believes he failed before he'd even turned the engine on because of a pass rate that has to be met

What he is talking about is quality control :D
And it whilst its based on statistics it certainly doesnt mean that they have to fail a certain amount or vice versa.
The DSA keep a record of the pass rate and analyse it to see if the test is being conducted fairly, if they saw an unusually high number of passes then they would check it with an external examiner, similarly as happened in Southend on Sea with the car testing, when there was an unusually high amount of failures, they brought in examiners from somewhere like Wales to conduct tests, the results were the same
**** drivers! :D
I suppose there is a percentage that fail on whether or not the examiner is a muppet and loves the power of being able to fail someone, however i rarely hear anything bad said about Bike examiners, they normally tell it as it is ;)

I think it may be true. I reckon if you take your test at the beggining of the week you've got a better chance.
If thats not true then it will be weather you've got a nice instructor of if he / she got some action the previous night.

Examiners love nothing more then telling people that they have passed! (apparently, they did a presentation on my RAF basic training)
But they will not pass someone who is not safe. End of story, its far easier to say "oh its the quota" then "maybe i ballsed up the test and need more practise."
The bike test must be a little easier because:
a) the examiner must do less bike tests then car tests so must enjoy the change. I mean i was the only biker waiting for a test at chelmesford, and there were about 10 car drivers waiting.
b) he doesnt have his clip board out marking down points, so he uses more of an overview of the whole test.

yeah thats true actually, when i went for my test, i was the last one of the day but still the only bike there, and the car waiting room was full...
They cant just fail you for no reason. If it is border line they might fail you to keep the pass rate down or something but if you do everything right they cant turn round and say "Sorry you failed cos I have to fail some people each month"

But there is so much that is discretionary, Andy's second bike test he failed for minors on inapropriate speed (and he was too slow not to fast), but one of the incidents was a national limit where he did 30mph,......reason? .....there is no national speed limit sign where the speed limit changes  the examiner said, "the sign has been missing for 2 years, but the post is still there!
Now, he has some discretion there, and if he had not given him a minor for that, he could have passed

I would have made a complaint!!!!
If he had incresaed his speed would he had done him for speeding up when there was no sign denoting change of speed zone :?: :?:
I say that was very wrong by the examiner!

Now, he has some discretion there, and if he had not given him a minor for that, he could have passed that is exactly what my mum failed for. she was doing a 30 in a national zone because there was no sign and she thought it was better to do 30 than 60 when unsure. sucks to fail on something that is safer.

durin my trainin for my A2, i was told that if you dont "progress speed wise when safe" you'll fail for being unconfident... but yeah that sucks if there was no sign etc..
