anyone who has this problem on the tzr and knows it is definetely not the clutch being worn and failing to operate fully, there is a simple cure!, rip the seat off locate the "Ignition control unit" which is a small black box found under the seat behind the RHS side panel, unplug the brown lead......now try it and bet your ass it works!. This seems to be because the ignition control unit only lets you start it in Neutral and if either the neutral switch or the control unit is knackered it cant get it's head round it and kills the engine when you put it into gear. Haven't really investigated if it could be the neutral switch at fault but i can't see how it could be because the neutral light will still work :?

Anyway to sum up if you have this problem a quick fix is to pull the brown wire from the "ignition control unit"

this only removes the silly yamaha starting functions about whether your sidestand is up or down whether you are in gear or not and that crap so don't worry about unplugging it, not all "black boxes" are that important you know
