Has anybody got a clue this is doing my head in 1990 TZR125
have fitted a second hand cdi but still zip have checked source coil fitted new coil new plug zip arg
I take it you dont see a spark if you rest the tip covering the electrode on the cylinder head? Grab a multimeter and test the HT lead, put one connector right inside the lead so it touches the metal connector inside and the other somewhere on the bodywork.
I found many parts of the bodywork wernt connected to earth on my bike, so check with the continuity tester first with the part you want to use and the -ve terminal of the battery.
if you get nothing, and you know youve got a working CDI unit, it may be the coil. Plugs do go very quickly on these bikes tho, so chances are its just that.
When i had this problem, myself and a friend who helped me re fit my engine back caught a wire from the coil, and it was shorting out on the chassis... so unfortunatly it may take a bit of time to find ;)
Hope this helps.

Have you tested the HT lead to see if any voltage is actually reaching the plug?

How far back have you tested to see if you get any power? the coil? CDI unit?

how can i test the cdi
you cant test its functionality without the propper testing equipment. WHat im getting at, is you need to find out at what point the power is earthing out - You say you have tested the HT lead, no power... then work your way back to the battery, testing the power at each connection.
On my Italian TZR, the power to the coil was earthed if the stand was left down, therefore stopping any power going to the HT lead. I dont know if thats the case on the english models.

And after heavy traffic on msn messenger i believe it is now cured! Thanks for shouting me dan  or i would never have tested my spare cdi!
IMPORTANT INFO FOR ANYONE WITHOUT A SPARK ON A TZR125:
CHECK THE BLACK WITH RED WIRE AND ITS CONNECTIONS FOR AT LEAST a 50v PULSE (when you kick it over). You may need an analogue voltmeter as it only shows for a short time and only expensive digital ones will show it up!.
