Dan
30-04-2003, 08:12 PM
I dont know if you can restrict a GSZR750 to 33 bhp - I thought the 400cc's were the largest bikes that could be done..... but i may be wrong.

Anyone else care to comment?

Tim
01-05-2003, 07:09 PM
Nah you can restrict almost any bike i think - you can restrict blades and 1100s as far as i know but dont ask me how lol!

Dan
01-05-2003, 07:36 PM
Yeah, apararantly it costs a lot to do tho, so better off going down the 400cc route first ;)

so you can pretty much restrict anything you want as long as you have the money to buy and insure it! :D

Tim
02-05-2003, 05:28 PM
i mean lets face it - how many people get a certificate to prove it for the insurance and then actually keep the restriction on the bike!?!?

MELLERS
04-05-2003, 11:37 AM
ermmm, yeah fair one! someone must have tho cos my m8 bought a bike and then thought it was flat and it turned out to be restricted!, so theres one person in the world that kept it restricted

Tim
04-05-2003, 03:33 PM
ah righty furry muff!

i thort my bike was restricted but when you rev it it goes like **** off a shiney shovel!

Question is: Why would you want to kill a Gixxer by restricting it? And you would still be paying massive insurance costs every year until you were 25 and could get a realistic quote. Get a 400 or a 600, much more fun, cheaper insurance and you wont look like a **** when someone of a 600 bandit twats away from you at the lights cos your Gixxer is a 33bhp bag of cack.

Spider
10-08-2003, 11:05 PM
thats a good point but even if he got a 400 etc he would still have to restrict it to 33bhp and will stillbe paying high insurence costs till his 25 same with a 250 because of the age well but with the 250 might be a bit cheaper than a 400 which is wha i have a 250 that is

Abberadon
10-08-2003, 11:15 PM
True enough, I recon you should always learn to ride before you get a real bike anyway.

Spider
10-08-2003, 11:16 PM
yeah i agree or you will bascally go kill your self lol

Abberadon
10-08-2003, 11:17 PM
Took me 10 years of riding to get from the H100 I started on through the RD250's and XV750's to get to my XJR13, but well worth the wait - I learned how to not die on the road.

Spider
11-08-2003, 12:08 AM
lol well i started on me 50cc ped then moved up 2 me teaser 125 whilst illegally riding a DR250 and took me dads Fazer 750 with a Genisis (spelling) for a ride a few times!!! got used to handeling that!!! nearly killed me self a few times but hey thats the price of learning

Dan
11-08-2003, 06:52 AM
Ditto.

You dont know how many people say to me "so when you gonna get a propper bike"

After covering my bikes ears so it doesnt get too hurt, I tell them "this is a propper bike, but i want to work my way up!"

Spider
11-08-2003, 08:21 AM
yeah which is fair enough take ya time keep ya premiums low get ya no claims and then once you have the money and are ready then get a bigger bike by then you should have some good old no claims and experianmce

Tim
11-08-2003, 07:39 PM
experience is defiantely the key

my cousin matt said to me that he thinks my bike is great ubt jokingly asked when i was gonan get a propper bike! - They dont realise that a 400 is more than enuff round here - its got enuff poke on country lanes and suits town riding - not too big n heavy n stuff - now i won the drags and cmae close to the 600cc times, he thinks its fine lol!

Spider
11-08-2003, 07:55 PM
i rekon that he thought that because he wasnt expecting the little Gixer to be so fast but he needs to realise that the bikes now adays are getting faster you get little race rep 125's that have a faster top end speed as the big trialie enduros

Dan
11-08-2003, 07:58 PM
Nothing gets on my nerves more than people who do a direct access course and jump straight onto a 600+ cc bike. I mean how stoopid is that.

Spider

The last place I worked used to sell quite a few restrictor kits for everything ranging from 400's - XV1100 (yes, really - as if it wasn't a big enough bag o'****e) The kits themselves used to retail at 130 inc VAT plus whatever the labour was (depended on whether it was washers in the inlet rubbers, new slides etc). We bought the kits for about 100 inc VAT so it was a nice little earner on some respects. Licensed company who make them are at www.FIinternational.co.uk for more info.

Whilst in theory, once you've got the certificate to wave at your insurance company, you can then whip the washers or whatever, out; consider the consequences should you have an accident even if you're completely not at fault?

Your insurance is now null and void, you get prosecuted for no insurance and it's a bitch to try and get the other party to pay up as even if it's 100% their fault, they'll argue all day about it knowing your now ex insurance company aren't going to get involved to argue your case.

I'm all for working your way up the ladder when it comes to bikes - not only the power but the physical size of a bigger bike too soon can catch you off guard, but if you do find a deal that is too good to resist, don't cheat on the restrictor aspect as it could work out painfully expensive should some 4-wheeled tosser have you off on a roundabout :(

cshan99
14-11-2003, 03:39 PM
I know of 2 sadddddddddd bast@rds, one with an R1 and the second with an RSV Mille - and both are restricted to 33hp!!!! Gimps (Restriction same over this side of the pond - once you pass test your test you have to ride something under 33hp for 2 years). Insurance companies don't look for restriction papers - only the fuzz if you are stopped 8)

Tark
14-11-2003, 04:56 PM
Well My SRX 400 is only 33 BHP anyway!!

Simon
09-12-2003, 01:57 PM
An R1 restricted to 33 bhp thats just wrong!!!!

i wouldnt care about gettin nicked that bike wouldnt be restricted if i owned it!

Spider
09-12-2003, 02:29 PM
lol can u imagine that pulling up on an r1 next to a moped 125 and it kicks ur ass ! lol how imbarrising!

Biker Dude
09-12-2003, 05:34 PM
That's just the ultimate insult!!

Tark
09-12-2003, 08:21 PM
how can a moped be a 125? All mopeds are 50cc.

I think a r1 on 33bhp would still be quicker than a 125.

Biker Dude
09-12-2003, 08:50 PM
LOL...always nit picking int ya Tark ;);) We all kow what the spiderman meant.. But yea, a 33bhp R1 would prob be quicker... but lets face it, if a ped OR 125 wanted to race the R1 and the R1 lost he'd just say.."i wasn't in the mood for racing today LITTLE BOY"

Tark
09-12-2003, 09:22 PM
I was just pointing out to those that dont know a Moped is any 50cc machine. a scooter is, well a scooter!

I will get my coat!

And yeah I was only crusing like i would get beat by a 125! 8)

Biker Dude
09-12-2003, 09:27 PM
weeeelllll.....my Rs125 does 104mph :D:D see u on the straightest bit of road u know...coz it'll take me that long to get up to speed!

Spider
09-12-2003, 11:21 PM
ok mr nit picker i class a moped as a scooter! cause i dont like scooters so to me calling a bike a moped is and insult and i was thinking more of a 125 scooter! which i would class in my own little world as a moped! a 50cc geard bike i class as a bike cause it has manual gears! but thats just me!

Tark
11-12-2003, 12:49 PM
Well i would have never said my TS50er was a moped just cos of the word mo ped! i'm a real biker!

Simon
11-12-2003, 12:57 PM
you can restrict a cb1300 to 33bhp if you really wanted to!

cshan99
11-12-2003, 02:49 PM
even with the restrictor kit on the bike he's still paying the same insurance if it had it fitted or not!!! :!: :!: (Muppet springs to mind) He should have gone out and bought a FZR/CBR/GSXR 250 or an RGV250  .

Still when he's beside me at a set of lights it does look the dogs goolies!! but still I don't think its worth it 8)

Jack
11-12-2003, 03:24 PM
Alright, thought i would add my story about kit's,

my mate, er bob has got a CBR with a micron system, (yes he found out it was a system when he could not use the oil filter tool behind the pipe's) he had it restricted to 33bhp, still had a lot of power, so he thought "yea, i could put up with this for 2 year's". But as soon has he got caught in traffic, he noticed that it kept bogging out and would not start for 10-20 min.

The way the restriction kit work's is a washer is put in the air intake, to restrict the air flow according to model, eg CBR 900RR, large carb air intake, bigger washer's. So their is the same amount of fuel being supplied to the engine, but not enough air, as a result the plug's would foul up. To stop this, the rev's would have to be kept above 4000rpm, this is achieved riding through town in a low gear, (very loud on bob's bike) or bliping the throttle every 10 second's (look's like u are trying to act flash).

So the restriction kit was taken out purely so bob could commute to work a lot easier, and had nothing to do with the extra power and speed gained.
Plus he still has the certificate to prove the kit.

This was done on a CBR400RR, so i as u can image, on a bigger bike, more problem's with fuel mixture's and carb's............

My Bandit 600 is restricted to 33....

I had a look at the things before they were fitted and my haynes manual told me they were piston assemblys? It also told me the carb is a lot more complicated than my Teezers!

Are these things air restrictors?

cshan99
23-01-2004, 02:20 PM
i had to get a {EB} restrictor kit fitted to my bike    (done it last friday) as i have my test coming up and need the cert for the instructor. Thought it was about time i decided to go legal anyway - didn't need cert for insurance. Its after making a total b@lls of my bike. Its more like a GSXR 40 now. Won't rev past 8k in top gear  and its restricted to 150kph or 93mph   And the feckin thing keeps cutting out on me driving thru town. Am gonna pull the {EB} things out as soon as i do the damm test

PPPsssshhhhhh i havnt got my babey restricted, evan though ive got my standered liceance! if anything happenes and your not restricted then you mght as well not have insurance.BUT if some stupid FCUK in his/her car DOES decide to knock me off, i know plenty of bike garages so ile just get THEM to pick it up n whack some in! restricters bog the bike down at low revs n then restrict the high revs, that sounds pritty ****e to me!Im not/never doing it.i love flying around at 140mph!!!!YYYAYYYY :D :) :o 8)

I am struggling to find any hard info on this 33bhp restriction thing, lots of talk of how it stops yer bike revving over 250,000rpm etc, and who has got it restricted and who hasn't, but what I'm really looking for is a source of legal info.

1. Is it 33bhp at the wheel or at the crank.....'cos theres lots of difference!

2. Can any dealer with a Dyno issue a restricted certificate or What?

3. The certificate we have says it is only valid for the person its issued to,....why? I can see no reason and do the insurance co.'s and plod hold you to that?

4. Has anyone ever been asked to produce restriction cert?

....BTW, if it fouls up, why not fit smaller jets?

Tark
17-10-2004, 11:16 AM
While this subject has been brough back to life I will ask a few questions.

My Licence came back with a code on the back saying =<25KW

I guess this means restricted to 33bhp yes?

Well when the 2 years is up will they send me a new one without the Code on?

Or do I have to send it back?

Whats the crack with that?

gixer400
17-10-2004, 11:59 AM
you can send it back and get a new one, or you can keep your original and have it saying <25kw. it doesnt matter as the police should see that it is past the 2 years if they pull you over. im still gonna send mine in to get it changed next year cos i dont want it saying that.

Biker Dude
18-10-2004, 06:08 PM
2nd that. Mine still has the 25kw thing on it and i've had no problems.

Tark
18-10-2004, 08:09 PM
Well thats {EB}{EB}. I would expect them to send me a new one after the 2 years! :?

FasterThanU
21-10-2004, 10:45 AM
mine still says 25kw you just leave it you dont need to change iti passed my cage test two months ago and so when i send my licence off for that they will change it!

so here it is:

33bhp = 25kw (approx)
A2 restricted licence (for anyone who is under 21 and for people who are over 21 and have heard stories of bikes so fast they pull your arms off that are scared!)

its specific to the person and bike!

Any dealer that fits the kit can issue a cert!

usually it is a air intake restriction!

REMEMBER you can restrict any bike i the world just dont for the love of god do it to an RS 250 changing spark plugs that often can make you cry!

True enough, I recon you should always learn to ride before you get a real bike anyway.

whats wrong with having the bike you want?
im 18 and have a honda CBR 600FX.
i only passed in october
if you have the ability to control yourself you wont do 150mph into a bush.

Anyone can ride anybike size bike in my eyes!! As long as you kno how too ride of course :laugh2

Nothing gets on my nerves more than people who do a direct access course and jump straight onto a 600+ cc bike. I mean how stoopid is that.

right-if it's showing off ya want...I ride a 1200 fudge, and it doesn't have a rev-counter, it has a calendar. And yesterday, just after I'd shovelled more coal on,I passed two tatty mattresses and a rusty old fridge-bit of a battle getting past the fridge, but I finally got the blighter on the s-bend at Mayland when it's door fell off! Also,on my licence,it says 'This old fart is older than Noah-leave him alone,he has to get home before his colostomy splits"-and although I don't put my knee down,[it wears my tweeds],I've been known to corner at a brisk pace. Indeed, sometimes the velocity of my cornering causes Fido to pace out really quickly,at the end of his leash! Right,I've said my piece....now where did I leave my pipe.....[wanders off muttering...]

I agree. There's no difference between riding at 40mph on a 125 and riding 40mph on a 600. Once you get going, it'll all be the same. It's just that most people that hurt themselves on a big bike USE all the power and wanna go 80 everywhere. I'm gonna act the same way on a 600 that I would on any other bike in order to ride carefully and safely.
