Had to get this off my chest cause it haunts my dreams :)
A while ago i was coming back from my shag bags house and was motering down on the M3. id done 170 miles that day so wasnt really feeling great anyway and the bike was feeling a little wobbly over 60....so i stayed in the slow lane and just bimbled home. I got well bored stuck behind a truck so went to overtake. Was feeling really wobbly now! Went back into the slow lane and what had been a bit of a flat tyre turned into a major puncture in my front wheel  .....all i can remember after that was SCREAMING inside my lid and lightly tapping my back break and moving the stearing to its extents and it making no difference!! AAHHHHHHHH!!! no idea how i managed not to bail....
I then rolled to a stop in the hard shoulder and foned SOS to pick me up. The worst thing was is that on the way upto nr cambride that weekend i got a rear tyre puncture, the geeze said i prolly got them both at the same time *sigh* AND the police pulled over to see if everything was ok, which added to the shyte in my leathers cause id just whipped off the L plates for the journey!
The only really cool thing that shows whats good in being a biker is that loadsa guys who rode past pulled over to see if i was alright. A CBR600 asking if my tzr was ok was a buitiful moment.
God my hearts pumping now just membering it :) ....was good fun in reflection..... :?
Touch wood, ive only had one near miss to date.
I had been on a mission of a ride one sunny sunday on my own, and was only 5 mins away from home on my way back, round some lanes. At one point, the lane turns to a nice straight, which is a bridge over the M25... anyway, thought reey, overtaking time... one car in front, none anywhere else.
I went to overtake him, indicating as i went, and the ***** pulled out into the center of the road, in an attempt to stop me getting past. He pulled out when i was just overtaking, so now im in the center of the other lane, with a bend to the right aproaching. THEN a car swung round the bend ahead coming towards me and the twat still didnt get back into his lane.
I slammed on my front and rear brakes, in an attempt to get back on my side of the road, behind this tit and as i was doing so, my rear wheel locked up on the center road markings.
I dont know how, but i didnt come off, and kept as much control of the bike as possible - got back on the left side of the road and missed the on coming car. I then proceeded to overtake this brain ache again, and he grinned - so i called him a ****er, booted his wing mirror and burned off.
What an idiot - man i was shaking when i got home.
This is a good thread, might get to hear some interesting stories ;)

Ermmm, dunno where to start here! These'll do i think
A story of excellent timing:
Is one where i was tanking down a 'B' road near my old house on my beloved but now sadly departed GT380, i knew the road well so was going a little bit quicker than i should through a bit of a nasty s bend by my m8's house, the chain snapped and locked up the back wheel between the two curves and i carried straight on through the hedge in a cloud which was a mixture of tyre smoke, two smoke, arse smoke and profanity!. To my relief I then crashed straight through the hedge and came to a safe controlled stop the other side (over handlebars before bike fell over  ) anyway when i rode down the same road 4 days later they had erected a huge metal corner chevron sign right in front of my hole!!! Thank christ for getting my bike sorted a few days ahead of schedule
A story of a nasty spill:
Thraping round a corner near a lake close to home in mid wales, close to the centre of the road (with my invincibility shield on! :) ), a car came the other way also operating his invincibility shield. As i was thinking "**** that was close!" he slammed his brakes on and twatted straight into me head on!, the bike did a full stop, i carried on and landed in the hedge on my arse (after trying to perform a running landing! ).
I sat there mentally kissing the ground and proceeded to take my helmet off when the people in the car got out and came over proclaiming "it's ok we're doctors don't move ...leave your helmet on!".. so i (politely! ) told them that i thought i would know if it was holding my brain in and took it off. Any how i got up on very sore legs and went to pick my bike out of the car and i as i went to lift it my legs went from under me in a blackout of pain. It turned out they were both broke! (perhaps the result of the attempt at a running landing) so maybe the doctors do know better in a roundabout sort of way :?
Right theres mine lets hear some more...........

I stopped at some traffic lights once and a taxi driver who was reading a a-z went into the back of me, knocked me old AR125 40ft away and i ended up sat on the roof of his taxi! I wasnt badly hurt just very bruised and shaken but i did drag the **** out of his taxi and give him a sound kicking while i was wearing crosser boots!!!

LOL @ Mellers 'Invincibility Shield!' Top class mate - ****in meself here!
Right I got 2 - first one - im 16, spent 3 weeks rebuilding this bike i bought for £25, got it on the road and rode it for about 6 days - go out for a short ride on 8th august 1997 (i think) - about a mile from home approaching a crossroads - bloke in sierra jerks out a bit then we make eye contact - he stops dead suspension bouncing and everything - i am looking into his eyes and he is looking back at me so he has seen me hence he stopped sharpish! So i keep an eye on him but look up the road ahead and as i get nearer i suddenly see this red blur as my front mudguard folds into this white wing and then i realise i am laying on his bonnet! LOL! first thing he says - 'are you alright?' - 'yeah im ok but bike isnt' i reply - now i am ok he hits me with 'i didnt see you mate!' Then he tries telling me i was 'doing one hell of a lick' UPHILL??!!? ACCELERATING FROM A STANDSTILL!??! IN 3RD GEAR!??! ON A 50cc TRIALS BIKE!??!!? I THINK NOT!!!! oh and excuse me for picking flies but I THORT YOU DIDNT SEE ME YOU C**T?!!?
2 years till i got a measley pay out! GRRR
And the other night commin home from the pub (i was drinking coke by the way!) I approached gallows corner roundabout (yes thats its real name!) which is pretty dangerous in itself - I thought i would take a change instead of going over the flyover in my moment infinate wisdom! I slowed right down to about 5mph and looked right, nothing comming, nothing comming, still nothing comming ok its safe to go.......just as i turn my head to look in front of me and proceed to move out onto the roundabout i notice something in the corner of my eye. In the split second i think shall i stop?! nah wil be ok! Or will I?! best stop!!! lol so i jam on brakes, front wheel locks - i stop halfway out across the roundabout and as i put my foot down this ****ing vectra flies straight across me at mach3!!!! ****ING lucky i stopped else he would have taken me to hell with him!!! Altho if i had nailed it i might have got away with it - **** its bad when i stop and think about it - he really was motoring!!!
Anyways i think thats enuff to bore you with for now lol!

M8's the "invincibility shield" is a real phenomenon! just remember all those times you've thrown petrol on a fire and lived, or when u take on a wasps nest armed only witha mixture of "under the sink" chemicals in a squirty bottle, or you drive that car back from the pub for your m8 when you know the wishbone is rotted almost through! All of theses are instances of "Invincibility shield", you KNOW it's true!
Right I'm off to insult the great big dude with the attack dogs who lives down the road
Oh and FingerZ! don't attempt to take off next time you are on a nifty thrifty honda fifty! just think of poor old sierra man

Cheers for the advice on the 50 mate - altho i dont really fancy riding one again lol!

hehe i think im riding around on an invincibility sheild at the mo, my tire was totally bald 700 miles ago. but the ****er who owns the local bike tyre place is really screwing me about....doesnt stop me burning up those ****ing annoying DNAs tho. muuhhaha!
Oh another near miss! Not long after i got the bike.....i was going a fair 40 (ish) down an A road with a barrier between the apposing traffic...but there are like gaps everyso ofthen so ppl can get to junctions from the other side of the road. It was night and i had my headlamp on but this bitch pulled right accross me. a sweve towards her arse end was the only thing that kept me from being a nasty stain on her ford
Oh and just after i got my rebore i was motering around the neighbourhood at under 3 grand (it was like the first 10 miles) it started raining and i pulled my front break on a drain cover....skidded and landed on my side. I jumped up like as soon as i hit the ground and pulled off my left glove to see my little finger kinda sitting across my 4th and middle finger.....hmm....dislocated. luckily an old skool mate turned up and picked upo the bike. I then tried to push the finger back in place...mel gibson style....but it wouldne budge. So mumsey came in her car and took me to casulty....an x-ray later and i find out its broke :s....****ing oops!
So they tell me to hold on to the bed with my right arm. By this time the adrenalin was wearing off and it was really hurting :'( so they gave me some pills and injected it with lydacain....then some lil fat **** doctor grabbed it and pulled as hard as she could...she was putting all her weight into it! just to get it back in place...this made me feel well sick....
Ne way lesson learnt!.......dont put ur hands out when u land :D
..only other ones i got are from an oil patch in the road when i was on a moped....but the less said about the better i think :) ...ruinied my face jenes tho :'(

ha ha reading this page is helerious and FingerZ i know gallows corner very well i used to live on straight road ( Real Names ) used to live in marlow gardens wen i was little any way i have a scrape for ya all!!! my dad had brought a DR250 Jap Improt!!! Went Like **** Off Of a Shiny Shovel!!!! i was 16 at the time so no way legal i had a moped!! lol but the DR was the thing i learned to ride on ( not the easiest thing to learn on) so i had big adreniline rushes wen i rode it so i kept talking it out on the road one night i decided to ride up to Wivenhoe from Clacton on it with my girlfriend on the back!!! happened to be ****ing it down with rain!!!! and the tyres were **** in the rain but me being stupid 16 yr old went out and did it any way 15 miles later i decided to ride back as it was very dark and i had me bloddy tinted visor helmit on!!! (der) and doing about 70-75mph round this bend and right infront of me is this huge ****ING Puddle about 2foot deep no exageration and ****ing hell it was like hitting a brick wall i have no ****ing clue how i didnt kill us both but manged to stay up and alive i was soaking wet got to about a mile away from my house when a copper pulled me over!! i was proper ****ting myself thinking oh ******** ive been caught!!! he didnt bother asking me to take off my helmit luckerly he said he had seen what had happend and asked if i was alright lol i put on a deep voice and said yeah blah blah blah he went ok then m8 drive safely got back in the car then rode off what a relief i was almost crying i didnt know wether to breathe or cry lol thankfully i did both lol stood there for 15mins in the rain trying to calm down!! thinking that if i got caught that would be "no insurence, no license, no mot, a passenger , biek out of class range, and technically theft cause me dad couldnt say he gave me permission to ride it" and i would have had to go to court and fined and lose me liscence etc but after 15 mins got back rode home then 2-3 weeks later popped into town to go to the shops with me bird on the back *(clearly not learned me lesson) stopeed went into the shop came ount and there and behold was a PIG WAGOn behind the bike and 2 pigs there scanning the number plate and i was busted!!!!! but i kept my cool and was polite then walked the bike 2 mins down the road then jumed on it and rode home after they had stopped followong me then 5 and a half months later just wen i thought i was in the clear i get a call from the police about my prosecution so i went down to the police stTION and they sad they sympofised with me and they gavce me afinal warning!!! i was like YESSSSS!!!!! i got away with the big 1!!! dam that was a relief bastards making me stew for 5 months ****tin me self!!! then give me a ****ing warning! but hey !!! got away with it!!!
*Sorry bout the Spelling*
I definatly had my invincibility belt on then!!!
FingerZ!

lol
that is one hell of an invicibility shield!
Well i have only ever came off on the road properly once in the wet, with a black visor, with dim lights, crap brakes and going down a hill.
although i have flipped my TS50 a few times wheelying
As for the track i have came off 5 times. 2 little ones, a low side and in the gravel.
3 big ones were a high side at Donnington, someone fell of in front of me at Cadwell and broke my wrist at Anglesey.

no invincibilty belt for you then lol! should have switched it on or charged up it's batterys
FingerZ!
19-07-2003, 03:34 PM
tark - read up the top a bit - mellers was talkin bout his 'invicibility sheild' - all will become clear lol!
LOL. I get it now.
Although i am not invincible i do have a bendy body. Even after all the crashes i have always got up and picked up my bike straight away!
I think you have to be like that, otherwise you loose too much confidence.
I, on the other hand, dont know how my body would cope with a fall... and i never really want to find out! :)
A mate of mine went out a couple of weeks ago for a ride - he runs a local mini bus firm (www.a2bminibuses.com in case you ever need one  ) so he doesnt get much time to ride... anyway, he came back, went to turn the buke around to reverse it into the garage and the bike fell over with him on it :( lods of ppl in the car park laughing etc.. so mean! and a little kid was the only one to come over and ask if he needed any help lol.
His bike is damm heavy tho, its not a sportsbike, its more of a touring/cruiser kinda bike... bloody loud!
Anyway, moral of the story is.... dont lean too far 8)
Lean as far as you can! Be confident and smooth, not too much brakes on bends and you will be suprised at how low you can go.
Hang off the bike to create a lower center of gravity and create two triangles, one between your knee, front tyre and handle bar and the other between your back wheel, knee and front wheel.
This will give the best stability as your wieght is off the bike a little and the bike doesn't have to lean that much to get your knee down and to go round the corner.
Now go get em Dan!
FingerZ!
21-07-2003, 11:17 PM
wicked!
thats the kinda advice i need lol!
i mean my suspension is dying - the back is far too soft but even if i adjust it i think it will be pants still
the fronts - i replaced fork seal on one of them n didnt wanna disturb the other side last time and bugger me if i pulled a wheelie n it popped! :x
so now i gotta sort them out again which is horrible lol! but will be all better again soon
i find that i have been leaning forward too much round bends - i find that if i sit upright as i can and lean over but kinda lean towards the back of the bike as much as you can on a sports bike it seems to go low n confident round corners - altho i always choose the wrong corner to do it on and end up nearly hitting stuff the other way or a drain on my side! Seems like i am one of the older members here but even with all my years on the road even i come a cropper.
to give you a little bit of an idea what i mean.
Started off road riding in 1968
on road in 1974.
got a job as one of ( in them days ) a very few london couriers in 1982.
by 1990 i was doing mainly long distance work including europe.
average milage between 2500 & 4000 miles a a wee.
now when you think the average car driver bike rider does ( according to stastics ) 10 to 12 thousand miles a year.
I was covering more miles in a month than most do in a yr.
Had a few silly ones like spending about 4 months riding on icy & snow packed roads with out falling off once then dropped the bike outside my m8s hse on the 1st warm dry day in months.
7th of jan 2000
had deliverd a parcel in hyde just outside manchester the day before decided that i cant be asred to ride all the way back to london that night,
So i phoned the office said that i was staying up in manchester till sunday.
No probs they say it dead anyways.
I have a son that lives in hyde so i popped round to my ex's place & puit me feet up for the night.
next day the 7th I got a phone call with a problem that i needed to be in london to sort out so it is late it is ****ing down & bloody cold.
being a courier in the winter is the pits, after a few winters you get clever & pick up a few tips on ways to stay reasonably warm & dry.
so i left the ex's place looking & feeling the pilsbury dough boy ( under all thse layers i only wieghed 8 stone )
got round mancs no prob was going down the A556 which runs between the M56 & the M6 ( if you ever been on this road you will know ) the road is straight as a ruler as you come down into bucklow hill there is a petrol garage just across a set of lights.
Now it is ****ing down even harder than it was when i left hyde the road is as greasy as a greasy thing
So I am taking it very easy speed limit there is 60mph i am doing about 35mph & getting a ****ed off with a car behind me that just wont overtake .
it is a dualcarraige way i am in the insdide lane.
start to slow down as i approached the lights they change to green as i am almost there im in 3rd so signal to change lanes as there is a luton van parked on the other side of the lights.
changed lane over the lights as i was almost level with the back of the van ( about 10 foot ) he pulled round on the quick one nice big U turn .
i had no where to go & no time to think it seemed like minutes but it was only about 3 seconds.
next thing i know i have this 3 n half ton ( guess ) transit parked on me & the bike I cant move.
my leg was caught on the engine bars with the full wieght of the van pushing down on me
my other leg was over my left shoulder
result 2 hours for fire brigade to lift the van off me.
damage control
van a few dents bent prop shaft
bike ( a new GT550 just over a 1000 miles on the clock ) smashed to **** only the back was unmarked
me
left leg 4 breaks
left elbow & wrist broke
right thumb broke right knee broke in 3 places
right foot 7 breaks facing wrong way
right leg between knee & ankle ( there is only 2 bones there right ) 2 bones smashed into 176 pieces
I dont like white vans or manchester anymore
Oh yeah that car that would not overtake
unmarked police car with video running rtying to catch me speeding
i saw a copie of the video when i went to court i threw up & had nightmares about that for over a year
Spider

What happened in court?

Compo i got took until feb this year I had 3 payments total 52k minus the 22k the DSS took back from me
all damage on left side healed well
right knee still very dodgy gives way a lt
right ankle pinned but still gives way
right leg between knee & ankle all but 3 inches of bone replaced by pins plates & screws.
That is why i was off riding bikes for so long
I walk with a stick
lost most of my short term memory
& i will be on pain killers Anti flames & some other drugs for rest of my life
apart from that
life is peachy lol

glad to hear you are doing good considering the damage

not surprising you threw up in court n had nightmares for a year - thats ****ing madness that accident! luky to be alive innit!

The court case was over very quick he put his hands up to it
it was then that i heard he had been done twice before for danderous driving both times getting a ban & a fine.
This time round they threw the book at him
8 months inside
5 year ban
£3500 fine
& cost
if I could have got hold of him he would have been a chair like i was.
It did not put me off at all
in fact i used to go down to the A4 ( i lived in Heston at the time ) & watch the bikes go by wishing i was on one.
It has taken since jan 2000 till June this year to build the mucles up enough in my leg so i could ride again
I have not done any distance yet as i still got to get used to riding with a leg i can only feel bits off.
longest distance so far is about 50 miles then a 3 hour break before i rode back.
Went from my house to west london to visit a mates bike club.

I am a member of a well known club & the brothers in the club wanted to do just that go round & kick the ****e out of him.
But there is more to it than that.
The driver of the van was a biker
while i was in hospital he visited me 3 times a week even after i was transfered down to london in a private ambulance which he paid for.
while he was visiting me in london one time his garage was broken into & his bike was stolen ( nothing to do with the club we dont do that sort of thing )
while he was inside his son was killed in a bike accident.
he lost gis bussines because of his ban & time away
then because of all this his wife of 25 years left him.
how do i know all this because even while he was away in nick he wrote to me weekly.
I think he has suffered enough
I have not heard from him since i moved down to essex because i lost his address in the move & so did not let him know my new address.
The man has so much guilt he is a broken man & giving him a kicking would achieve nothing.

Woha i thought id had some back accidents very sorry for Womble and limp-jaffa-cake glad ur both ok tho and ur still into these lethal contraptions lol i know i am ...
I say lethal they are only as lethal as other road users make them ..
Ive had my fair share of crashes some very very amusing others painful but the ones that hurt the most were the ones that happend while trying to show off hehe thats right the old pride thing ...
Well ive been riding motorcycles since the age of 4 took to um like a duck to water proberly becuase my dad was and still is at age 70 into motorcycles in a big way .. (hes clocking 70 now and owns a gsxr750 and a xv750 virago )
Anyway about crashing ive crashed plenty of time's (usually caused by major rider errors lol) and ive managed to get out of some incredible moments too ...
Well until i was old enough to hold a licence i ust to spend ALL of my spare time riding offroad bikes ,
The day after selling my best friend at the time Steve my old Dtr125r we went for a blast over the local nature reserve anyway Theres a long winding sandy path that goes from the one side of this place to the other ( with bushes inclosing it )
Steve was sat there having a break and i went off to have abit of fun on me own ..
About 10 mins l8r i decided id head back to him so i came storming over the top of this dirt bank doing roughly about 65-70 mph hit the deep sand still full throttle got the back end out round this blind corner and guess whos coming the other way flat out ! Steve! ****!!!! it all happend in seconds but it literaly felt like ages i knew straight away we were going to colide and the first thing i did ( very luckily) was to lift my right leg off the foot peg and lean the bike as far to the left as possible ( Steve however is still gunning his bike didnt see him even attempt to move ) Then it all went back into high speed dubbing we hit i heard one hell of a bang lots of engine revs and bam landed in the sand headfirst .. :S
Got up straight away and Steve is lieing in a bush facing (i mean him and his bike were now facing the direction i was traveling in) the other way and his Front forks i kid u not were touching his frame and the front wheel had twisted all the way around 180 degrees lol and he is sat there in the bushes with the bike stil running shouting at me to get it off him lol ..
I ripped the bike up off him and checked if he was ok he laughed then saw the full exstent of the damage to his bike ( the laughing then abruptly stoped lol)
Anyway i went over to pick my bike up grabbed it and then found that my right arm no longer worked :S "Was this my first broken arm was i at last going to get a plaster cast to get everone to sign ?? " lol nope just a sprain i l8r found out at the hospital :( what a bummer ..
Anyway i kinda side tracked myself there, My bike when i went to pick it up the right hand side casing had been completely destroyed and the gearbox oil was seeping all over the floor and the right hand footrest had also been removed :S ..
So in a sence i was extremly lucky to get away without coursing myself some serious damage ... If i hadnt lifted my leg off the footpeg that day i doubt id even be able to ride one today or walk for that matter ..
The bike was l8r repaired with some liquid metal and fibre glass which worked a treat and i was off on yet another mission to hurt myself ..
This isnt by far the closest ive come to serious injury or the funniest but i think ive blabberd on way to long so ill leave it at that for now ...
Although i will say one of my funniest moments was sliding past the local chipshop on my old tzr125 after just breakin from 70mph and then grabbing a hand full of front break right on a bloody desil patch :(
The funny thing was, i was sliding past the chipshop ontop of the bike and my m8 who had seen me coming was standing there chatting to me as i was sliding past loool ... finaly stopped didnt do much damage to the bike apart from the broken gear lever which i l8r poped home n welded
but summut else happend that night which put the tzr125 away forever .. but i think ive gone on long enough so ill leave that for another time ..
gawd sorry about the essay
Well i dunno about anyone else, but i was enjoying that (in the nicest possible way mate... glad ur ok un everyfink :) )
... so keep going mate! ;)

i've only come off once which was my own fault and the only thing damaged was my new trainers and jeans    !!, had a few near misses but i tend to block them out afterwards, else i'd never wanna go anywhere on my bike! and a few of them on the road in brentwood dan mentioned earlier!! i dont remember much of them tho!! xx

to be honest im not sure how or any 1 else has crashsed on a 50 cc moped asa they are so slow and basically useless and i ahve no idea how crashed the couple of times onmy moped! i admit i am a little ****ed but still dont see how i cahed on my 50cc 02 trekker
And now i have hidcups!! arghhh :bad-words:
nght everry 1
My brother used to have an X8RS 50cc moped... he had a few accidents, all caused by 4 wheeled brainaches.
I can only remember 2...
First one, he was at the t-junction at te top of my road, turning right. All of a sudden, this white van reverses out of a parking space straight at my brother (going backwards still). Ben couldnt go backwards.. so all he could do was lift his leg and keep his finger on the horn.
The van kept reversing, crushing the bike... and eventaully stopped. Ben had a few scrapes but was mainly unhurt, apart from that horrible feeling when your brand new bike (ok, its a ped i know - i hate them all, but he'd only just bought it brand new) has just been crumpled.
Insurance paid for it all to be repaired.
Second one... he was riding up Shepards hill (Harold Wood way)... aproaching the hall lane (on the right) nags head lane(on the left) junction.. just started going up that hill, and a car comes diving out of nags head lane, hitting my brother side on. He flew across the road, onto the oncoming traffic and into someones driveway.
Again, bike was a wreck and went back to honda for a second time to be rebuilt.
there was another one, but i cant for the life of me remember it.
He had it stolen aswell, right outside the office.... but he went looking for them, found em and got the bike back. Him and another chap in the office had the little ****s by the throat... they were only about 12-13. Luckily the dammage the caused was just added to a prior incident, and so was fixed under the insurance.
So glad he sold it in the end.... cant believe what luck he had on that thing.

being one of stupid talents i managed to get my bike to glide across the road, draggin me along by the ankle and ofcourse gettin the attention of some unwanted help,( too fast for the corner but i got me knee down 8) ,and me elbow :? ,then me hip  lol !)
when i came to stop and i stopped screaming coz my cold hands and just *SLAPPED* the hard tarmac with enough g force to rip the skin off, i attempted to get my foot unstuck to get out the way of the next *twat* who might come round the corner too fast like me........................................... which is when i noticed something more scarey than that  the drunken samaritans!
there was about ten drunks with their eyes firmly fixed on me as their legs took them every which way but towards me?!?! imagine night of the livin dead... minus the blood  when they did finaly get to me i had them slurring stupid nonsense at me and breathing alcho breath all over me :x i did thank them for there help etc but when i said i was ok and tried to get on my bike they had other ideas of gettin an ambulance and keepin me up against a fence
couldnt apologise enough to the paramedics  i felt like a right twat, not only had they phoned for an ambulance but they made out it was serious rta, omg, luckily tho they thourght it was funny and got rid of the drunks so i could ride off.
