apparently, you shouldnt use good oil on a newish engine, cos it wont let it break in propely,
shouldnt use good oil for about 6 thousand miles.

I wouldn't use a crap oil, just run it on semi-synth and change often if the engine is new!
P.S I'd stick a decent 10-40 semi-synth in your gixxer 600. :)
P.P.S crap oil + 6000miles = shafted

ppps.... never run a road 4 stroke on anything other than semi synth or you'll have clutch slipp at 2000 revs..lol

Depending on the year of your bike, semi-synthetic is recommended, but newer bikes R6 03+ fully synthetic
I use putoline

i always use 10/40 semi synthetic
i once used fully synthetic in one of my old bikes (zx6r j1) and got slight clutch slip... (although this could of been down to the plates being worn)
although i know people that use fully synthetic without a problem... although they do have to check their oil level more often as it appears the bike uses more when using fully synthetic rather than semi

PPPPS. I use Castrol GPS (semi) 10-40w in my CBR1000RR, and have done since day one. (oil was changed at 100, 600, 3000 + 5000 miles so far).

not sure where i read it but it went some thing in the line of don't use fully syn as road bikes are Designed to run on semi .. but if you want to use it don't till atlest 8/10,000 on the clock. sure it was in the ride mag

A lot of the newer 600's and litre bikes are FULLY synthetic, The R1 is, and so is the K5 1000 suzuki as well, not sure about which others are, but i know quite a lot of the new ones use fully synthetic

My older slow 600 won't hack semi or fully synthetic.. causes clutch probs on all divvys. Loads have tried in the owners club and have had problems.
Yamaha helpfully do state this in the owners manual.
Guess when I get a bike thats not out of the stone age again I can use something more exotic.

All our bikes have run on Silkolene Comp 4 10/40
Its good for all performance engines and specifically long distance ones ;)
It works fine on the Mille and the 9 :)
