Evening all
I have just bought a new bike after 6 years away from 2 wheels !! it's a CB500 (I believe in taking things slowly to begin with!) but might turn it into a CBR400 by next spring. Non-biking hubby has only just got used to the fact that it's not the Ford Ka he thought I was buying to get to work.... hey ho.
does anyone go out to Great Bentley at all? I live out that way and was wondering what it was like, are they a friendly bunch or will they just laugh because I'm slow
the bug is biting and I want to go and play, I don't have any biking buddies yet. Ahhhhh.
cheers
Harrie xx

Hello, the guys are a very very friendly bunch. I went on a rideout once knowing no-one. Now there's a whole bunch of em I'd trust with my life.

Hi. Did my DAS on a CB500 - fond memories! Ever thought of a ZXR400 over the CBR? those Kwakers are little bullets...

haven't really thought much beyond a CBR to be honest. It was what I had on my walls (and in my dreams) when I was 17.....sigh!
other thoughts are TZR250 (if they're not all shagged by now!),RGV250, RS250 - you get the picture, small and swift!
I'd better give him indoors a chance to get used to the missus on 2 slow wheels before I shock him with an insurance/oil/chain bill for anything more exotic.
He doesn't ride (yet) but is a total car nutter so he is going to get a CBT for Christmas. That should be fun in January!

Hooray another CB500 Biker!
Welcome Harrie Bird. They are a totally cool bunch on here. So what year is the beast and how are you finding it? Lovely Bike to ride, does all what its asked to do, plus the cost is pretty resonable!
Gt Bentley is easily the best Bike Meet I've been to was great...apart from the Nail Sticking out of my tyre when I got there.
Treating my baby to a new Speedo Cable....my exsisting one squeaks and it sounds like someone has taped a Mouse to the front!

the beast is a Vreg, 99 I think.
I took it out for a proper flight down the A12 on Saturday (having only been a commuter bird between Alresford and Colchester (6 miles) for the last 3 weeks) and was very very pleasantly surprised.
I'd heard good things happen at 6,500 rpm - ohhh hooohhhh yes!
but tell me, Prodigy Pete, does your back brake go squishy in the wet? and does your exhaust go 'pop pop pop' when the revs drop?
mine sure does, I see another trip to Dad's Bike Maintenance Ltd. Maybe if he tests it he'll swap me his ZX10 !!!

If your exhausts popping then you need your fueling sorting on the carb, its basically unburnt fuel going bang in the exhaust manifold and upper part of the exhaust, just needs a bit of tune thats all :)

No my exhast doesn't go pop but it sounds a little bit ticky at low revs. No the back brake seems cool. But I try and avoid riding in the wet if at all possible. Tad on the slippy side.
My Front brakes a noise when I brake with the front, but I just changed the pads and I think the pads are a little harder tho so it might be that!?!?
Good bike, yeah get it to 6,500rpm and it certainly can shift!!! we'll have to go for a burn up!
