Just out of curiosity I wondered if there was anyone on this site that was actually offended by words such as f**king, w*nker, t*sser, pr*ck e.t.c. (obviously without the asterisk')

There are some words that have become by lore taboo in polite society such as c**t and should NOT be used in public, but does anyone really slap there hands to their ears or leave the room when hearing any of the above words anymore.

Granted you do not want to see them in every other post, but when used in the correct context and at the appropriate time, is it such an issue that they have to be censored?

I frequent and moderate a site of middle aged pipe and slipper guys  as some of you may refer to them, the Honda vfr club. These guys are fairly self moderating except when the odd handbag gets thrown (with 8,000 members I suppose there is bound to be the odd clash), but otherwise fairly well behaved. There is no censorship on swearing there but again it isn't used in every other post just when the poster feels it is appropriate, we do trust them with a modicum of common sense.

Feedback and constructive argument now welcome :D

I was playing a drinking game with some mates the other day. Where one of the rules is you can't swear, if you swear, you have to drink.

It's difficult, it's a large part of my everyday matey language.

Firstly I am not offended by any of the words you have used, there are however in my opinion far worse words which are rarely used, go and look up felching for instance! That is repulsive, and I may leave the room.

There are occassions when an expleative can be used to good effect to highlight something, eg. wtf is going on? But in general I fear, that swear words are used to compensate for a lack of usefull vocabulary. This is when we find every other word becomes a swear word.

So come on Guys and Gals, demonstrate your extensive vocabulary by avoiding those words, consider it a game, use a dictionary if you want.

I actually think it is rude incosiderate and I take offence to most bad language used .
I think a site that is mainly full of younger persons should take responsibility for their wellfare and upbringing.
It is because of the above mentioned language which is mainly used in low life senarios that this country is going downhill rapidly. It can only extend to more violence and illegal behaviour. Which then ammounts to the taxpayer having to pay more money for emergaency services to uphold the law and bring the youth of today back to a level where they can be classed as reasonable human beings within society. They can then improve there low life status, increase their self respect and start showing respect to those of us that deserve it ! ie. My grandad who fought for this country !

Actually f*ck it...if im honest i dont give a sh*t !!!!!!!

Swearing doesnt really bother me, although a bit of @*# does tone it down slightly whilst still getting the message across :)

The biggest gripe i have is the text speak, and as mentioned the Chav lingo.

No excuse for stringing a sentence together on a keyboard that reads something like

"da man da uvva day woz takin da rise outta me 4 speakin da truth dat all Scoobies is da ******** innit"

For most people it actually takes time to translate from thought what they transmit with a keyboard, no excuse for not at least trying to take the time to put something coherent together :)

not really a*sed either way to be honest. But I don't like the c-word or even the t-word

I swear like a trooper and have really had to watch it since I started working at a youth club, the kids pick me up on it all the time. The rule that seems to work there is that it's ok for them to swear their little heads off but not for the youth workers!

we leave em to it except the c-word and give em a roasting if they directly swear at us. seems to work really.

just on the text language, it really p*sses me off but some of them really can't read which scares the sh*T out of me. if we can get them to write anything at all it is a major achievement so text language is fine in those cases!

i would only get offended if the swearing was directed at me in an offensive way. though if someone was annoyed about something that happened and used a swear word it would not bother me. they are words of expressilike anger same as any other emotion really.

I don't get offended, although c*** is not really exceptable, i only really use it if i'm having a barney.

I also hate it when woman say the word C*ck, ie: when the mrs say's "if you think that c*cks going anywhere near me tonight" i get a bit upsett

I hear it every day at work, and to be perfectly honest ,I'm not bothered either way................................

BUT......................... there is a time and place for it, and there certain, expletives, that shouldnt be used...............

I'm ex-forces so have heard most if not all before.

What really gets to me is if I hear a young lady coming out with a tirade that includes expletives I might never have used even when addressing the biggest bunch of rowdy irks you could imagine. I really don't know why I feel different about hearing females swearing as opposed to males. I guess I must be some kind of chauvinistic pr**k.

I try to never swear where ladies are present or children and whilst I do admit to swearing profusely under my breath, I try to use words such as Bother, Blast, blow and oh dear quite often.

Strange? Yes that's me.

It took me a while to read that bit! I was approached by a guy talking like that saying he couldn't get a job. I was thinking "nowonder... i wouldn't hire you"

Swearing doesn't bother me in the slightest (i'm curse quite badly sometimes). but there is a time and a place. I hate it when people i've never met before curse away.

I married one and have 3 young ladies for daughters. Well when they are not swearing at me, their brother or the latest console game.

"I married one" - have to put that in in case anyone knows me or her

Ive just found this thread, i imagine its directed at me?

I swear like the next bloke, and evryone is entitled to their own opinion.

Personally i think, a certain few C**,W** should not be used in postings, because it looks bad, and SOME people could be offended.

The older generation like your mum and dad, very few F*8 this and C** that do you hear? And looking in as a viewer after seeing a poster in a shop advertising the forum, COULD BE PUT OFF.

Personally, it doesnt offend me, I have been called every name under the
sun.
But im just saying some could be offended by it thats all

not being stereotypical of bikers or anything but this is essexbikers.co.uk not essexlibrarians.co.uk or essexlanguagelovers.co.uk and so people expect a certain level of language that is in general use anyway.

I don;t want to see all this kick off again!!!!

as a lass I am more than capable of f-ing and blinding with the best (and quite frequently do) but it annoys me when I'm at work and someone says "ooh can't say what I really think because there's ladies present" - for a start I always look over my shoulder coz I aint no lady - because it implies they're treating me different coz I'm a girl and sorry guys but I HATE THAT! all I want is to be treated like one of the boys because that's how I feel. Apart from the actual biological differences and the compulsion to talk absolute SH*TE after too much beer - I drink too much beer too but just fall asleep coz I'm small

but I respect that everyone feels different about this and I certainly wouln't expect to impose my rules/standards on anyone else!

i thank you
