View Full Version : Fuel tank lotto!

I played, i lost! :D

Didnt bother filling the bike up after Saturdays little jaunt, thinking sod it the bike does 160 to the tank normally before i have to think about reserve.

So its sat there this morning with 77 miles on the trip, and i decide to go for the 80 miles there and back to work, again thinking it would be alright,

And our survey says

NO! :D

Like a tit, i ragged the bike to work, and tried to do the same on the way back, and got for my sins the characteristic spluttering of the "help i am on fumes!" from the engine, not known for my dexterity i fumble with the fuel knob (oooooer) and switch it over to reserve as it promptly died.

So there i am coasting down the A127 in rush hour trying to pull into the side as it dies on me, only to find that it now doesnt want to restart because i have drained the battery at the side of the road trying to start it

Fortunately, some geeezer in his pickup pulls over, gets me and the bike onto the path alongside the dual carriageway and then proceeds to bump start me, what a bloke, i didnt even have a chance to thank him properly because as i was sorting my **** out he got back in his pickup and drove off :D

Restored my faith in humanity and bored the tits off you lot in the process!

You may now wake up :D :D

Exactly what happened to me A12 3 weeks ago.

Had to call the Bennets breakdown line. Guy comes out and says "wheres the battery on these?"

Now bear in mind I had had to wait for nearly 2 hours for this guy to turn up. I quipped, "don't know under the seat I s'pose"

His response...

"Don't you read the f***ing manual?"

Well I ask you, red rag and bull sprang to mind.

All credit to the shop where I bought the bike. Swapped it out for a new heavy duty batt with no quibbles under warranty.

It would seem so! :D

As far as the fuel light goes, there isnt one ;)

Its the first time i have taken a gamble to be honest, the Mille, i can guarantee that as soon as i see the light i have a good 20 miles at warp speed (it will do 160 to get to that point anyway).

The Ninja, i have seen 160 on it before i fill up which is 2 days back and forth to work,

However i hadnt factored into the whole scenario that i had spent a good part of Saturday in 3rd gear at most :D whereas on a cruise to work its into 6th as soon as possible.

What really amazed is that the whole time i am propped up against the kerb, not one but 2 police cars came past (traffic division) and not one of them even bothered to see if i was in difficulty, however i had the last laugh at that because i caught both of them up and gave them a real dirty look as i was filtering past them about 3 miles up the road (which must have taken them 15 minutes to get there :D ).

i'm such a stupid girly forgetful dizzy girly girl that I have to set my trip clock to zero every time I fill up. the only way i remember to fill up is once it gets to 100.

I ran out of juice so many times when I was 17 and pushed my GS250 (HEAVY HEAVY bike esp. for 5 foot lass) home more than once. did i learn, did i ****** so now, religiously, every 100 miles i go to the petrol station.

 i'm so dim!

i reckon so but not being one to play fuel tank lotto myself i will stick to my method coz I know it works

and it's safer for me, there's a big hill between Colchester and Alresford and I aint pushing my bike up it

and it's only 6 miles to work so 100 miles does me loads. Unless I have to go anywhere near BP Boreham or Billericay

Dont they average around 50mpg though?

It must have a 19 litre tank too which to my reckoning would mean you should get at least 200 miles out of the tank ;)

I can get 45mpg.

I'm never quite sure if I can get home on one tank full, I don't fancy pushing it to the next junction of the M25.

And since my bike is incapable of going over 55 i get a very credible 58 mpg.

If only i could find that red-line...

ill sell you a red felt tip for £12.95 and you draw as many red lines as you want. if you draw one round your lid youll always be in the red line. but be warned.. i did this and snapped a valve in my heart.

Sam's got a habit of running out of fuel/being with someone who runs out of fuel.

I ran out of petrol when I was with him. Wondered why my bike was acting so strangely!

My fuel taps actually broken, so it just goes from full to empty when its on the ON position.found this out the hard way.....ran out of fuel once!!!
when i Had my lil suzuki DR 180 when i was 17, used to travel down the A12 everyday to work at the cardrome, ran out of fuel about 8 times, had to call parents with a jerry can.And no police stoped!

Police biker stopped when I broke down on the M25, told him I was ok. And hoping he would swiftly go away (since I didn't have any tax). He did.

But nice of him to stop anyway, blues and twos and everything!

try almost TRIPLE !!!!

i was brave and gave it 155 miles before filling up just before i got home yesterday, I spent £9.56 on 10.6 litres of petrol.

by my feeble calculations that is 66mpg and on a 19 litre tank (i think) that is 276 miles! and that is sitting at 85 pretty much all the way.

see there are some benefits to having a cb500 - there have to be some  - no i love it i really do..... :D

Easy soloution, when the red light comes on............or it splutters for those that dont have one...rag the hell out it......so you get to the petrol stayion quicker............

when u do this u use more fuel... if u use top gear and just chugg along to the petrol station u actually use less petrol than if you rag it..!! LOL
