This is a very serious post, i am posting this in confidence that you wont laugh... ok go ahead as it is funny to laugh at cripples...

BUT....

What if that CRIPPLE was your friend?

Yes, went to a physio on monday and they had my xrays, he said to sit down as he has bad news...

Turns out ive got a compressed fracture to the spine that wont heal, but will knit back together...

HOWEVER...

More seriously..

He also found out that i had a disease in my spine...well its called a disease... but really its more of a deformity..

its called Schaeurmans Disease (SHERMANS DISEASE) and means the top half of your spine grows quicker than the bottom...

this results in a 'hunchback' or 'humpback'...

They reckon without excercises/help in 2 years ill be the new Hunchback of Notre Tilbury....

But im relligiously (---No jokes on that word please :x ---) doing excercises and well have to see how it goes, if it doesent improve... then hes going to discharge me (the physio) and say im on my own...

So fingers crossed i shud be back to biking in a year approx...but cant promise nothing...

Also, as a result of the disease i have weakness to the area of my back and am prone to slipping discs...

Just thought i would warn the younger generation and/or the older generation as this can affect ANYONE ANYTIME ANYWHERE...

You mite have it and not know it...

I sure as hell didnt!

My nephew did, and didnt tell anyone about it until he was in a lot of pain. His X-rays were unbelievable, and the corrective surgery was something else. Be very glad that you have found out now, you should be able to do something about it. I assume he has told you to get all your family to have a check up for it?

Good luck BTW.

Sorry to hear that dude, hope it gets sorted, but I don't think you're a cripple by any chance? will it stop you riding a bike? walking etc. ??

Sorry to hear dude. Can't be much consitlation but just keep excersising, thats gotta help in someway?

Like others have said will this effect your riding?

Once everthing has healed, try concentraiting more on the illness? why concerntrate on it now when u have this crash to get over first?

I am very sorry to hear about your health,

I always say "Everytime you get hit with a sledge hammer just get up again and dust yourself off and get going again"

Use the time to reflect on what happened, learn from it and start over again.
I hope you get well soon.

regards
Johan

Dont stress too much, it is manageable, take it from one who knows. I had it diagnosed about 20 years ago when I fell out of a tree and broke my back when I fell onto a 5 bar wooden gate.

I am prone to cervical disc 'slipping' and by f**k its painful, but it wont keep me off the D6. It can make you conscious that people are staring at you but its never that bad and anyone who does stare or take the **** is just a pathetic loser who will be lucky to keep their teeth in the vicinity of their gums.

Keep your chin up.

bad news mate, sorry to hear that

i won't treat you any different, i will still dole out bitchslaps when they are deserved (but will be gentler!!!!)

at least now you know you have it you can work with it, i would assume that with anything like this the earlier you know about it the better?

even if they tell you you can't do stuff, they don't always know for sure so keep an open mind. i bust my ankle up pretty badly and from the research i have done i am pretty lucky to be walking well let alone wearing 4 inch heels and tearing up the dancefloor.......

good luck with it
