is anyone around at the weekend to help me sort out my back brake on my cb?

the squeak has still not gone, no amount of trying to scuff the pads in or taking it to a mechanic has helped.

i cannot believe the noise is normal so am desperate now. i am happy to try and work through the haynes manual (when i go and buy it) myself but would like someone who knows a little bit to sit with me while i do it just in case i can't put it together again.

there is cake and a big cuddle from a soppy greyhound on offer. if we fix it there is a big cuddle from me on offer. no special cuddles though...

If you were closer I'd take a peep, but have you tried shaving the edges to remove the 90 degree edge? Something I do often with cars to stop squeaking/honking of pads.

when i had a look quickly at mine i found that if i moved the caliper a bit it stopped the sqeeeeeeeeeeeeking... but it's a bit hard to go down the road holding the caliper isnt it now

Where abouts are you and have you already tried coppaslipping the back of the pad where it touches the piston and made sure any anti-chatter springs are facing the right way (a sort of flexible metal thing goes under the pad and presses against it to stop it rattling when braking, usually with a long and a short tang that is supposed to face a particular way)

Spray the disc in WD40 that always stops squeaks !

Obviously Im joking........if there are children listening....please do not try that at home !:laugh1 :laugh1

it has been into 2 bike shops now, one of which has looked at it 3 times now. they have done something with copper slip and something to do with chamfers (ouch sounds painful) but to no avail.

i had a look at uncle haynes last night, all the things it says to do with squeaks seem to point to warped discs which is obviously not good but surely a bike shop would have pointed this out so they could sting me for a new disc which wouldn't be under warranty because we just can't be a*sed etc etc etc

hence the idea of pulling the pads out, giving it all a good clean and having a good poke about with the calliper. looking in the book it looks to be fairly straightforward i am just paranoid. do i really need a torque wrench to do all the bolts up afterwards, or will hubby doing it up as tight as he can get it be ok?

webtone i may well be giving you a shout if you don't mind!!

You can borrow my torque wrench, also the haynes may say that the bolts are one time use only as they came with thread lock stuff on them from Honda, ********. It sounds like the garages have done all the correct stuff, however if your disc is slightly warped and the piston seals need replacing the brakes may be seizing a little and causing a squeel. All easy jobs with really cheap spares to do them. If you dont get an offer of help by the weekend I'll see what I'm up to.

will see how i go, normally daddykins is the first port of call but there is serious family sh*t going on at the mo so he is needed elsewhere!

webtone is by far the closest so as long as he is not required elsewhere too then i'll bug him.... it's miles away for you karl!!!

I'm around all weekend. Got tools apart from torquey thingy. Got spray cleaner, wire brush, wood blocks and blu-tack.

Should be ok so long as i don't forget the blu-tack:laughbounSat or Sun? Sat probably best if we need to nip and get bits.

I'd think just copper slip would do the trick. And just make sure there's plenty of meat on the pads. Sam's back brake squeaked for a while and we copper slipped that up, think it fixed it for a while.

i don't want to fix it for a while i want to cure it! it's had copper slip, i'm happy to put more on but not sure how that will solve it?

the pads were new about the end of October and I haven't ridden it much since having the cbr. but have ridden it enough to get rid of the new pad squeal, it did a trip to peterborough and then to kings lynn and then back home which was loadsa miles. it is a definite groany squeak which is not going away!

i might need to sell the cb in a couple of months (depending on hubby and his r6 status, think i have plenty of time but shhhh don't tell him!) and can't flog it while it is making that god-awful noise

I'll be in the mega cage and youngest will be with me. That ok?

She likes dogs so no problem there and will have you in stitches.

Just don't ask her to do Alice from the vicar of Dibley...
