well he's fine really but he seems to be a bit sputtery at speed, almost like the feeling when you are just starting to run out of petrol (note he is FULL of petrol!) or you have the choke on and need to take it off.
He doesn't sound any different (still GORGEOUS) and is pulling fine he just feels a bit tight on the throttle.
my diagnosis so far is either
1) something to do with the fuelling (fuel/air a bit wrong?)
or
2) poorly plugs
I don't think it's anything to do with the air filter because i had a new one just after i got him.
either way the fairing is gonna need to come off i think so i would welcome any hints/tips etc to help me work it out. After the successful removal of brake pads with the help of uncle haynes :reading I am happy to have a go at a few things as long as it doesn't get too complicated.
Plugs are quite dear so I don't want to replace them unless this is really going to be a big improvement.
cheers

Try putting some silkoline pro fst in the tank, it may just be the cold/damp weather affecting your carbs??

sadly not a 748.
CBR400RRL, J-reg, NC29, done 18200kms approx 11300 miles. so hardly any for a honda

Might be the diaphrams in the top of the carbs starting to perish at that age, I believe this only affects higher revs. Also check fuel pipe routing as a pinched pipe may still let enough fuel through for day to day running round town but not higher speeds.
Does your bike have a fuel pump like CBR600s, these start to play up when more fuel is called for (again, faster riding), although this is more mileage based than age as it's the contacts welding themselves together after long use.

it colud well be what he said cos that has happend on the vfr
i think it would help taking it to 14500rpm in all the gears and kepping it pinned in top for 3 miles

i with drew. i will need a caining but before u check all the diphrams just pull the plugs out and check them. if there nakered then a new set will be a start. even if it doesnt fix it it wont do any harm to it

yeah i figured that porka but they're like a tenner each or something and i will have to be very nice to hubby as it is because of the cost of all the add-ons i had to get with the paddock stand... i had sold biking to him as a cheaper way of getting to work!
i will def. check the fuel pipe, it does get pretty squished because i remember when me and my dad were trying to get the tank back on after changing the air filter.
cheers guys.... :clap

yes mr silver is only charging me £6.50 plus vat which is better than i thought.
i've got a new fuel filter on the way too, thought it would be worth having a look.
am now wondering if it's dodgy baby juice though because the cb is feeling a bit spluttery too? maybe they both just want a weekend off.......

could be **** in your petrol tank.
try some fuel additive to see if that cures it.
if not, take a look at the sparks and see how each cylindar is doing.
there is a guy on ebay that sells the sparks dirt cheap.

progress update........
well, drew, happen you were right mate, i took it out for a caning this afternoon and it is sooooo smooth once it gets past 8000 revs.
Dads Bike Maintenance came for a home visit (cleared me out of Christmas cake but hey it's a small price to pay), he also took it for a test ride and pronounced it perfectly healthy and he's ridden it before so told me in no uncertain terms that it was fine and i should stop being paranoid. I'm a good girl and do what my dad says so nuff said.......!
