I am pretty sure that the law has not changed in recent years with regard to motorcycle lighting. Indeed, a quick check of the latest regualtions/guidance for riding test examiners says what I think is still correct and this was issued Dec 2005.
The issue:
As far as I can see indicators are not required to be fitted to a motorcycle in law. If they are fitted then they must be working, adeqaute illumination blah blah blah...
Now my question (assuming the above is still correct):
If a bike was fitted with indicators and they are then subsequently removed entirely, is the bike still legal?
If you know for certain or have a relevant/current web-link that I can find out from please let me know.
Cheers

Any equipment fitted to a bike must work, if they are not fitted then you are fine. Ive even MOT'd an old greeves with no lights at all!

make sure you remove the switch, if it isnt there it cant be checked anyway, as said if its fitted and not working then its a fail, but its no different from a daytime MOT in that you dont need indicators fitted anyway ;)

Cheers guys!:clap
I was fairly sure but didn't know if it had changed recently. You can't break wind these days without this flipping govt doing something.

I seem to remember being told by my MOT bloke that any bike registered after 1986 has to have indicators unless it is primarily used off road but needs an MOT (such as an enduro bike which has to be road legal in case it has to crosss the public highway between timed sections). The same goes for headlights and tail lights, it's possible to get a daytime only MOT but this means you get nicked after lighting up time.
I had a mate (who went by the brilliant name of Aelwood) who used to register and MOT a series of Gas Gas trials bikes with no lights or indicators at all and take them green laning. Then the git would see who had a rack to carry his plastic container of spare petrol cos his tank was practically non existent.

If there in place and not working its a fail !
If they are not there at all ita a pass. A motorbike does not need indicators by law. :rockon

Thanks again. This gave me enough info to find the EEC Directive and its still the same.
i) Direction Indicators - if fitted - on motorcycles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must be approved to EC Directive 76/759, 93/92, Chapter 2 of 97/24 or to ECE Regulation 6 or 50;
Spotted one on there I didn't know had changed.
Bikes must now have a speedo in both mph/kph if after 1994 and all bikes made after 1984 have to have one if above 50cc.
I always thought bikes below 100cc did not need a speedo. Not that I'm ever likely to own one again...

And apparantly I am told mopeds don't need a reflector! but motorcycles do.
