Well thats a lot of very big pictures! You say it will do 130mph but it only has 120 on the clock??

Yeah My Dad Had to ride it back from Dorset as havent passed my test yet and yes it does do 130mph it goes off the clock the previous owner had it dyno jetted and stuff and to test it's top speed he used an eletric plug on thing and he got 129.65mph on it, and the funny thing is he was a fat bastard!! so i cant wait till i pass my test and see what i get on it!!! it was kool because we were driving back in a golf TDI 1.9 and my dad was like miles ahead the golf does a max of 120 and we were doing that nearly all the way back and we couldnt keep up and the other good thing was we only had to fill the bike up twice from dorset to clacton so its very econimacal but now me dad has put a disk lock on and his got the keys so im not tempted to go out and ride before im legal as i got nicked for riding a DR250 Jap Import a couple of months back and got let off wityh a warning! so let the temptation begin !!!

ps my golf will do 125 not 120 as stated ps 200 miles on a TZR 250 is not recommened as it kills your ass ps they had no chance of keeping up as i used to be a dispatch rider in london, Jerry

You could have two avatars if you have both bikes in one picture couldn't you? And what you mean you have added one for me and TT? Avatars?

Dan

No, the bike you have - under your avatar

Tark

Dan

cos if you ever update ur profile, it deletes them - and i have to add em again.... it did say your CBR before, then it dissapeared and i forgot to add it.

I will do it later :)

Dont want to **** on your 250's chips but a top speed on a dyno isn't really true cos you wont have any wind resistance will you??

Spider

what?? you on about?

Tark

What i am on about is that you said the bike has been tested for power and speed on a dyno. Well on a dyno they run the back wheel on the roller and get the top speed. The top speed on the dyno isn't what you will get on the road.

On the road you have wind resistance slowing you down and the resistance from your front wheel. this means you wont be able to reach the same speed you did on the dyno (in theory).

nah m8 i mean it has been dyno jetted or something as in they have chainged and modded the carb and the jets etc i didnt mean it had been tested on the rolling road!!

Ok i have just re read the bit about top speed where you said he did it with an electrical plug. My fault, Sorry.

What is the plug you talk about?

so its a 1kt/2ma model... i assume its on stock gearing 14/41, that wil lgive you a top speed of 121mph at 11000rpm. To get 130mph you will need to rev to 11800rpm. Not healthy. Its not the bhp that will affect the top speed, but the gearbox. Lets assume its running on stock gear ratios inside the box, cos i doubt anyone will have changed them.

So, if u reckon it'll do 130, the only way u'll get that, is to up the front sprocket to a 15t and rev thru to 11050rpm. Thats still borderline crank seizure... i only ever get to 1lk rpm if i'm heading into a hairpin and ready for some outbraking, so maybe for 2-3 seconds tops... but there again, i log exactly how many hours my engine has been running, and strip/inspect/rebuild every 8 hours of running time.

A stock 1kt/2ma will do between 42/45bhp. Reducing the MJ's will give a few more bhp, but will also get the jets clogged up in next to no time, especially on a hot day like we've been having. If its gebuinely putting out 50bhp, then it has been tuned by someone. Be prepared for regular (ie. yearly) piston/ring changes.

Check ur sprockets. If they are stock 14/41 then whoever told u it will do 130mph is talking out of theyre arse, or has been running it at nearly 12k rpm!! (or course the speed testing equipment is mis reading)

incidentally, mine has had the crank balanced, barrel ported, powervalves reshaped, head skimmed, plugs 'keyed', new pistons/rings, reeds modded, exhaust opened up and modified chamber, baffles shortened in length to match engine tune, airbox modified. left carbs on STOCK SETTINGS cos thats what works best (now theres a good tip if ever i did give one). We got 52bhp on a very hot day with the engine still running in. we expect 54bhp on an average temperature day with the engine ran in and loosened up. Going to be going back on dyno next week to experiment with airbox trumpet length and ypvs controller boxes, hoping for somewhere in region of 57bhp.

Ok you lost me there m8 and yeah the bloke i brought it from said it had a top end rebuild or something (me being not vary technical) and my dad did say he got 130mph on the way back from dorset (picking it up) but it was in the red!! and he didnt get it for long ! and other than that i have no idea what your going on about lol

Spider
20-08-2003, 11:01 AM

Tark
