I've picked up stories on various forums that the Dept for transport are planning some changes to bikers insurance.

One of the things they are planning is to make it compulsory to insure a bike even if kept in a garage or on a driveway. The proposal is that unless you have a bike on SORN, they will get the data from DVLA and the MID and nick anyone without insurance.

Many bikers take their bikes off the road during the winter and whilst many still have them taxed and don't declare SORN, they often don't have insurance.

The new proposal would mean that you are paying insurance for "on road risk" whilst your bike is sitting in the garage.

I think this stinks!

Lets hope this proposal goes the same way as leg defenders and front number plates. Why can't they leave us the f*ck alone. Bloody nanny state, drive me nucking futs!!!!!!!!!!!!! :shooter :shooter :shooter

I think you both have summed it up perfectly. "Nanny State" and "Dumb idea".

Even this SORN takes the p!ss, if its not taxed and its not SORN you get fined..........so you don't have to take it on the road with no Tax, just forget to SORN it, or re-sorn it after a year and the fine just comes through your letterbox!
