View Full Version : Got any test tips?
Ahoy,
I have my test at 1141 (exactly, I'm sure) on Friday. Anyone got any tips?
I'm confident with most of it, but very uncertain of my U-Turn. If I fail on anything, it'll be that me thinks.
Anyway, any tips, like bribing the examiner?

on the U turn, remember to look as far up the road to where you want to end up and you should be fine ;)
the rest of if, ride for yourself and enjoy it more importantly, dont look for faults with what you are doing, let the examiner look for that, just concentrate on the road. :)

i did direct access and i couldnt nail the U turn until the very last hour of my final day before the test so i was bricking it when it came time to do it.
Couldnt tell you how imanaged it, i just did!
As for the test in general...like sir lateshift said, just enjoy it.
I thought of my test as any other ride, except i had a mate giving me directions where to go, simple, i didnt think "s**t the examiners behind me" just some dude giving me directions!
where you doing your test?

the more you think about the u turn before the more nervous you will make yourself. otherwise you will just have a mental block about it and that's no good. practice loads before the day in car parks/industrial estates and you will be fine.
my top tip for u turns is to grip the tank quite tightly with your knees (not really tightly like your life depends on it, you still need to be relaxed), and if you are turning right (which i guess you are) then pull up with the right handlebar as you turn. Not too hard, but i find it helps my brain be convinced I'm not going to fall over. NOTE try this well before the test and junk it if it doesn't work for you.
you'll be fine, i got a good feeling and i'm usually right. I usually correctly predict who is on the phone and what sex people's babies are going to be :grin2
other than that good luck!

I had the same affliction as "The Boss" with my U turn, Just be confident, check all directions, before you go. Also if safe to do so do the speed limit if its 40 mph do just under if 60 dothe same, the guy testing you will be looking to see how confident you are in your self, so this shows him. Also remember to turn your bloody indicater off after a turn!!!!!!!! Good luck mate

A crisp 50 pound note handed over just before the eyesight test should do it. You might not even have to go out on the road.
U-turns, try leaning the opposite way to the bike (move your bum off the seat to the left), as this will give you more balance at low speeds and enable you to tip the bike a little more which makes it turn in a smaller space. Make sure you get moving in an ahead direction before turning, so your balance is good before you start to turn. And get quite close to the left hand side kerb before starting, no sense in leaving yourself less room than is available.
where you doing your test?
Chelmsford.
Thanks for all the advice, guys. Can't wait until it's over!!
