Help! Knackered TZR

The old beast seams to have given up.....plugs are goin black really quick..pumping out white smoke..... :(

Is it time to call it a day after 35,000 miles?

Ive cleaned the carb and air filter...after each effort it was ok for about 20 miles then it stalled at low revs......accelerated like it was on a bungy rope..... :'(

The problem im told by a mechanic is that its running too rich (due to the plug) how do i fix it!?

Ps...its not loosing gear box oil.......and it will b 4 sale soon :) ne1 interested!? Fairing kit fitted tho no painted!

i would have said the air filter was blocked, but you say you have cleaned it. try fitting a new plug and taking it for a GENTLE run without the air filter attached, this will make the engine run lean. if the plug is still gummed up after, its not cause your running too rich.

other reasons for plugs gumming up are a knackerd 2 stroke pump (dont try running on pre-mix, its not atall good for the little end bearings on these bikes, apparently), and damaged crank seals. have you taken the top end off and inspected it. You could probably do with a rebore, piston and rings anyway. good luck.

ps, has anyone succesfully grafted a nice tail and seat unit onto one of these bikes, as thats the only bit i didnt really like about my old english TZRs.

Are your ports blocked or anything? Is the plug the right type?

As for the tail piece i asked this about the tzr125r as i dont take passengers and the number plate bracket is a bit big.

Take off the cover to the oil pump, and check the alignment marks are as near to eachother as you can get them when the throttle is untouched.

If you unbolt the exhaust and look up at the piston, do you see a load of black shyte in there?

If its pumping out white smoke uve blown the (right) gearbox side crankcase seal and ur burning gearoil
If it is running to rich which its not simply drop the needle down a notch on ur throttle slide or bung a hotter plug in ur using a br9es right ? try a br8es ..
Although theres really not much point as it sounds like uve blown the crank case seal ...

Tzr's are usually only any good for 38k miles anyway then its ethier time for a major overhaul or time to let it r.i.p ( rest in pieces )

My old tzr is still going at 48k miles and my lil brother who has it now still continues to thrash it everywhere but at 36k it died it had 3 sets of main bearings till i fiannly realised that the crank its self was out of true and it was that that was throwing the bearings.. I finaly changed the crank had it rebored at the same time at a total cost of 220 quid ..

That was 2 years ago and it hasnt missed a beat since then ..
poor lil bike i think ill put it in a museum once my brother has finished with it lol

The white smoke goes when its warmed up....

I swallowed my DIY pride and went to a garage...the geeze said strate away he rekons its the coil, so a new one will be fitted...Lets hope it will do the trick :)

Well put her in the garage and in the end got a new coil and HT lead, a new crankcase oil seal.....and its still oiling up....it goes in on monday to get the generator re-would :( *sigh*

BUT! when i first got it back, **** me was it fast! So thats what a powerband is! Turns out that the bolt going thru the power valve was loose and it had opened itself =) i found out it was loose cause i was ragging it home and the left and side of the valve shot out across the road, the tacho started saying 12 and i started ****ting myself cause i thought i blew the engine! Sounded well good on the ride home tho, loud as ****....i may bypass the exaust all together!
