View Full Version : What's your wheelie technic?
Not sure I've spelled that right, but never mind.
As a complete wheelie virgin/dummy, how do you wheelie?
I've no idea how. Well, I've a vauge idea, but what works best for you?

when your stationary pin the trotle back to the stop so the bike limmets and dont pullthe cluch in and just kick it into gear

Dude.....you trying to kill the kid!!!!...to the stop!!
Thats what I thought!! I have images of the bike loop-the-looping over my head

yeah....one guy tried showing me but i dont have the bottle to try in case i smash the bike up...can afford to repair it, but he said roll along about 15mph then just quickly and smoothly open the throtle and the front should lift, the more gas you grab the quicker and higher it will go, if you snap it back right to the stop it'll come up a bit too quick if youre just starting out....it might work, but only if youre confident enough...me im not!!

that bottom one iz wot i sed
First question is what bike do you have??
a 50cc will need a rool of a few mph and then the clutch dumped and high revs.
a 1000cc will just need a good squeeze of the power at 20mph in 2nd.
There are lots of different ways.
I cant tell from your picture (assuming thats your bike) what it is but it doesn't seem like the easiest bike to pop up as its quite long and low bars.

Anyway.............If you want to wheelie a 600 Bandit you will have to do it first, they wont lift in second. There too bl**dy heavy, and not enough power.
If I can remember
Pull away in first, quite quickly. When you get to 5000RPM pull the clutch in and bring the rpm up to aprox 3000 to bring you too 8000 then let the clutch ping out and the front SHOULD float up.That all has to be done in one swift movement,Just a flick of the clutch but adjusting the rpm.You probably know what I mean. Also, when you ping the clutch tap the rear brake at the same time,so basically the brake releases the same time as the clutch.Remember, one swift movement. It's best to practise your throttle control first, getting it from 5000 to 8000 without looking.Try it but dont let the clutch out.Go along in first at 5000 then clutch, twist the throttle back to when you think your at 8 then have a look. After a while you should be able to tell how far to twist your grip.
Also get a 14tooth sprocket fitted, cheap as chips and makes a world of difference:rockon :rockon
I'm not 100% on the rpms,It's been a while since I wheelied a Bandit .If it's not working, move the start rpm about a bit.You should be able to tell what to do.:rockon :rockon
REMEMBER:Cover your rear brake at all times.

before u use the clutch get used tot he front end coming up
in frist gear roll at about 15 20 or where u feel the engine is just gonna buzz if u give alot more then just close the throttle and ping it back as the front forks come back to u
this will take practice but after a few u will have it up cove rthe back brake in case and be very smooth with the throttle u should be fine
or come on a southeaststunter ride out and we can show ya

its really hard to explain and you can really only be tought the basic stuff and the rest is all just feel and learning
you could buy my WR400 and then I will tell you how to NOT pull wheelies!!

Get a 1000cc twin, such as a Ducati Monster S4R, and you, won't have to work at wheelies at all, in fact, its harder to keep the front down than it is to get it up.
My Fazer 1000, will gracefully lift the front if I use full throttle in the power band (9-12k) in the first couple of gears, and thats with my 24 stone sat on it!.......quite cool if you nail it leaving a roundabout and you are still banked over.

people are forgetting the 2 types of wheelie well 2 methods you have the following:
Power Wheelie:
depending on the cc of your bike and the power usually achievd thro riding along on 1st gear at low rpm (2-3k) then snapping the throttle shut and then quickly and smoothly opening it again which gives a hard pull but lifts the front wheel up (probably the hardest to control and continue due to the force and quicknest of the wheelie) but you can continue it once you get your balence by short shifting into second and then so on (obviously cover your rear brake and not your front) this is popular on 2 -stroke 250s (tzr.rg.rs etc) and also popular on 600cc sports bikes not so popular on 1000cc as 1st gear is brutal accel and you go thro it so quick
second method
Clutch Wheelie
clutch wheelie is achievd once again dependng on bike and power and engine size by rolling along at low speed dipping the clutch opening the throttle and then dumping the clutch which causes the front end to lift you can control the ease of the lifting and the agresssion of the lifting by the quickness or the smoothness of your clutch release but is genrally a more controlled method of wheeliing due to ur control on the lifting part! and to continue the wheelie once balence is achived you just shift up a gear and so on (once again covering the rear brake incase you go too far ova and as max biaggi prooved you can go past 90 degrees and still save it ! )
the feeling of coming up will be daughting at first but with practise you will get used to it ;)
hope that helps ;)
