http://www.rural-roads.co.uk/essex/ffield2.jpgLast time I was there was July just gone, sitting on one of the benches on the sloping green, looking down on where the bikes park. It was a beautifully warm peaceful day (midweek, so no noisy herberts on bikes there). I went home feeling really tired and went to bed early wondering why I could hardly keep my eyes open.
At midnight I was having a weird dream that I was pis.... drunk and couldn't stop falling over. Woke up to find I was paralysed down my right side, useless arm and leg. Hopped out to the landing, slid down the stairs on my backside and rang an ambulance with my left hand.
Got neenahhed to Broomfield, where I spent 2 weeks on the stroke ward trying to wipe my bum with my left hand and not shaving (where every patient was born in 1922 uncannily, I was the youngest there). The worst of it was I was banned from riding/driving for four weeks automatically and had to get the doctor to pass me fit after that. The silly cow wanted to refer me to the DVLA which means informing the insurance company and can take 6 months plus. I worked my wily charms on her and squeezed her fingers till they cracked and balanced on one foot with my eyes closed etc, but it still took her a week to issue me with a letter letting me ride/drive. The stupid thing was I hate buses, so I'd limped from the far east of Braintree all the way to the train station area just to see her and she said I looked a bit flushed and my heart rate was up.
Anyway, that pic just brought it all back, must ride over that way on the next nice day, whilst shaking my fist upwards in defiance.
Edited extra bit of trivia. That pond is in fact a legal bit of public highway and predates the bridge. Legally you can walk, ride, drive and take your horse across it, as it's a ford.

I take it everythings OK now and you are able to ride again?Yeah, everything's fine now, although I'm milking it as an excuse at work to take up their home working policy for one or two days per week. Everytime I mentioned home working they said no, so I started clutching my head and groaning and hey presto they have started to waver. I ride 100 miles per day commuting (since 97) and frankly I'm sick to death of it, so a few days without grinding through the rain and wind might bring back the pleasure I used to get in the old days.
