well when im not spending all my time at a poker table i like to go climbing, indoors at the mo but i hope to learn how to top rope and lead climb and then go abroad and climb some real chunks of rocks.
heres some pics of me, im doing middle graded climbs, so i have a long way to go yet.
this climb is highly graded as overhangs at the top...

Mile End mate?
Many a happy hour spend swinging around the monkey room. Have they still got the bat cave, and have you tried the Castle, bloody good there.

yes indeed mile end, a fair way to travel but its meant to be the best along with the castle, never been to the castle tho as i hear its ropes only, but then ive also heard its not, know knows. i dont use ropes but i plan on finding out for sure and if you dont have to use ropes i shall have a look at the castle.
whats the bat cave? yeah the monkey rooms just been re-done, as you can see in the picture, the other half of the room is having the ceiling rebuilt. i take it you used to climb there as u must have recognised it, do you still climb?
What's the bag for attached to your arse? Is that in case you get caught short on your way up? hehe
Looks impressive - I dont think i've got the upper body strength to pull myself up a wall like that, expecially with such an overhang!

Bloody air force used to make us do stuff like that. Kept telling them if they were insiting that I wanted a parachute for anything above 6ft.:laughboun
You've got more bottle than me for heights. Well done.:clap

I used to go there alot, havent climbed in a while though. The bat cave used to be a ceiling with nothing but holes, so it was pure upper body, good fun. The castle is ropes only, but about twice as high as Mile End plus it has some excellent traversing walls and campus boards.

yeah i heard it was good for traversing. i might check it out as if i wanna climb outside im going to have to use ropes then, as i want to do more than bouldering.
the bat cave isnt there anymore although it does sound really good, shame

i used to go loads when i lived up north, climbing walls in the week and in the winter and out on the grit at the weekends and the summer evenings.
they were happy days but then i hurt myself leading something easy. i went back to it and led something much harder to prove to myself i could still do it. i'm not sure how i feel about going again though.
if you need to borrow outdoor kit then most of mine is pretty tidy, the bit that held me when i fell off is not included because i'll keep that forever. i have got pretty much everything you could want for sport climbing, or loads of bits for proper hot rock action
and cliffs are definitely where it's at, bosherston head in pembrokeshire with the sun gently warming my back? yes please! maybe i will do it again.

harriebird
22-02-2006, 06:48 PM
you can still go climbing with one arm, it's a good thing to do because it teaches you to work harder with your legs :grin2
so no excuses :grin2
how far away is the mile end one anyway? is that where we're going?

Mile end is almost in Central London at the end of the A13, I pass it every morning. It has a fairly big car/bike park, or we could use the train, there is a tube stop about half a mile away.
And yep, I used to see a one armed spaniard who could climb better than anyone else there, grew up in the spanish mountains I think.
Ride-or-die
22-02-2006, 08:44 PM
i used to get the train, then realised, u follow the a12 literally to the wall, so not only is it easy to drive/ride to but its also half the price in fuel than public transport
harriebird
23-02-2006, 11:50 AM
i don't mind driving if people are not too far from the a12, i'm coming from furthest out so makes sense if people don't mind sharing fuel? and there's plenty of room for kit, people and the odd greyhound as well
