Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what are the best roads in France and what region. Best places for nights out etc. I'm heading over the water in May for a few days.

The best part of France is the port at Calais, after that everything turns French for some reason.

My advice would be go to Calais, turn round, come back, get on the next ferry and nip over to Holland and run through to Germany on the autobahn.

Seems like a wasted trip on the ferry but aha! there is a plan!

At least you can say you have been there but wont have had to ride on the roads, anyway tea is calling me :D

Seriously i have never actually been in France long enough to appreciate but i am sure there are some nice bits down South, the North just smells like anywhere else :)

Call me that again and I'll kick yer ass :D

I too would have to go with Holland :D There's some lovely smooth curvy roads and on most of them, you can see for miles and miles :D :D

Never been to France - doesn't it smell of cheese?

Thanks for all the advice. I know exactly what you mean about northern France. Did a booze run. Going to go further south, possibly even Prague. Got as far as booking euro tunnel, only 35 mins to Calais. Play it by ear.

hi
i have been to france twice my bike was zzr600 with a mate on a t595 about 8 years ago we took a tent and camped. first time we went from calais, rode via Reims to lausanne in switzerland 750 miles on first day if you leave on a sunday and get first ferry crossing you have the roads to your self. 2nd day over grand st bernard pass (its 2500 metres high good for snow ball fights) about 100 miles (as completely sha**ed after first day ) the views were amazing. then to Geneva now the roads get really interesting the road is called route de napoleon it takes you to Grasse near Cannes it winds through mountains then down towards the sea look on the map this is a 100 miles or more of winding race track its the best maddest road i have ever ridden you have to stop after a while to calm down otherwise you will die. when you get to cannes which is very expensive for everthing either head towards monaco or as we did the coast road to Montpelier stayed there as camping and beer was a lot cheaper.then head back north any way you like .. we went up the toll roads due to time however 2500 miles in 6 days best holiday ever..
2nd time went from le havre and road down west coast stopped in Le balle, St john de monts and stayed in Arcachon on top of Dune du Pilat roads wer not as memorable and traffic was a lot heavier. about 1600 miles some of the A roads were really hard work a lots of lorrys and heavy rain.
hope this is of some use
Have fun
