View Full Version : Stock... the land where weather stands alone
The past two days, the weather in Stock has been totally different from the weather either side of it!
First, Friday it went ice cold, and the air seems to go quite thin and sharp entereing but went back to normal coming out.
And then, this morning, as soon as I went past the sign that said "Welcome to Stock", both my mirrors misted up so much I couldnt see out of them, and my visor did the same, and the road was coated in ice!
As soon as I hit the 60 at the other side, it all went back to normal!!
Madness!
I think Stock is haunted.

isnt that what they call Micro Climates ;)
Having never been there i wouldnt know the area, but i do like the reference to your mirrors misting up after going past the Welcome sign, but think yourself lucky, in Shoeburyness you dont get a welcome sign, you get an inbred Banjo player and once you get passed him they all look the same (bit like Jockey's hmmm no thats Cumbrians ;) :D ).
Its like watching Deliverance :D

not quite ;)
a micro climate is the same prinicple, and can be put down to the effect of different heights of terrain and the effect of the wind and weather on them ;)
Being an expedition leader tends to require you to understand the weather ;) :D
micro climates are a common phenomena, to do with anything where the climate differs from the surroundings, in terms of buildings, it could be where one side of the house is in the shade, in terms of area, it could be where the prevailing wind is pushed forced into an area at a stronger pressure and therefore causes the temperature to drop further, but ultimately it is all the same principle.
here endeth 1 part of the lesson :D

to be honest it should be something that all riders know about ;)
its the bends that you go round on a cold sunny day and suddenly find that its no longer cold, its slightly darker and even colder with a touch of ice on the bend (pretty much where the sun hasnt got to it :D ).
I think Hells found one ;)
Not a micro climate in the strictest sense however the fact remains that the local area remains colder than the large majority of the surrounding area ;)

Stock is Haunted, they used to Burn Witch's there and in Norsey woods, plus its probably even more haunted as about every 6 months some kid trys to break the land speed record comming down outwood common road on a bicycle and stacks it, doo do doo doo, doo do doo doo :p
The weirdest thing about Shoeburyness is that the dvla car pound aways has speedboats in it! (and they wont tell you were the auction is lol), not to mention the time travel facilities were your driving/riding your motor on a thursday evening but they have had it in the pound since Wednesday :motorbike
An old mate of mine used to live in/parents owned a pub in shoebury with the clever name "The Shoe", Now thinking that the White Hart is in Billericay and is opposit the Local Constabuary (See Leo i'm trying lol), I think Guv should change the name to........
Nah forget that :grin2
haha.
Stock is a scary place. Full of old people, and it has the world smalest libary. It's tiny! There must only be room for a desk and one shelf of books. Literally!!
Also, old rambling people in boots and big socks appear from no where. Going through the other day, got to the zebra crossing in the middle, and this HUGE group of old people in macks, and carrying sticks and big backpacks just appeared! There must of been at least 50 of them. Took them forever to get over that crossing!
Lateshift? Can you be our resident weather man?
You can have your own section of the board.
