Hey there can anyone help a new biker out! I just bought a GSXR400 swingshot and cleverly left the park light on and so killed the battery!

Problem being this is my first bike and i have NOOOOOO idea how to get to the battery to trickle charge it!

Can anyone please help me out??!! The more detailed the description the better!!

Thanks

Never had one but I'm assuming it's under the seat, check for screws under the corners of the seat, or look for some sort of fixing around that area.

Perhaps there is a bolt going in each side. Take off the pillion seat and have a nose around, you may be able to see the mountings from there.

Good Luck :)

The problem with that Drew is that in most cases it wont charge the battery like that ;)

It will work for ticking the bike over if the battery is in fairly good shape i suppose, but if the battery is slightly damamged after being left to go flat then it normally just takes a nominal charge and ends up doing exactly the same again, my ZX9R is a sod for it (i should get my arse into gear and go and get another battery but i am idle! :D ).

To charge a battery like that you normally have to take the bike out and give it some beans so the charge circuit is pushing out more than the bike is taking ;)

Thanks for all replies

Whats the b82rez please?

I've had a look under the seat and there are 2 square shaped nuts on bolts at the rear of the seat. There is one large bolt under the front of the seat but i cannot get to it! Someone said you have to take the fairing off?

About the bump starting: I've heard you can snap the timing belt if you try bumping it to much is that true?

The battery was fine prior to me leaving the parking light on so isn't damaged.

well you would be hard pushed to shap a timing belt so your ok there and the carging points are on the top of the B82rez + and - you cant miss them mate. and if the B82rez is in good nick tehn bump starting it and leaving it running should work fine

You might have to take the seat unit off, on the VFR you have to

Ok tried bumping it but the hills not steep enough and i'm no good at it as this is my first bike sovery little experience in bump starting!!

Does anyone know an easy way to bump (i've tried putting it in second then running and jumping on)

On the seat issue does anyone know how to get the seat off a GSXR400 or a site that tells me how??!!

thanks guys

On most bikes the seat unit comes off by using the key or by removing the tail panel to uncover the seat retaining bolts/fittings.

I cant see how it would be that difficult to get to the battery on one of them?

do you ahve any tools if not then you buggered

if you do have tools then its very easy just look for the nuts and bolts that hole it on and takt them off

If I remember rightly there are two bolts , one either side of the seat at the rear. Unscrew them and it should slide off:clap

If im wrong I apologise its been 6 yrs since I had my gsxr400 !!!

the year is a 1991.

I have full tool kit for the bike but the nuts under the seat (as in looking up at them from on the floor) are square and a bugger to shift. Is it these that I need to remove?

Why oh why did I leave that park light on! :shooter

Lift the back corner of the seat...you should see the bolts. The ones you are lookin at from underneath are prob welded !

She doesn't, she has a beautiful ZXR400 as pictured top left... :D

Sorry though, if it was a GSXR400, I would've loved to help :D

My battery is just under my seat, which is secured by a single bolt front centre. Nice and easy for the blonde gel :D

in comes the spider who has a 1990 GSXR 400 right is it the GK76a model or the GK73a as ive had both ;) but by the name "swingshot" which i assume u mean "sling shot" its a gk73a so what you need to do is! take off the seat (not the unit! ) (front seat) u do this by using ur key to unlock the pillion seat then putt the bar under the pillion seat to unlock the front seat under that u will see where the tank bolts on to a tank mounting plate you remove the nuts from there lift the tank up slightly and then remove thetank mounting plate which sits across the sub frame! u remove that by removing the 2 bolts on each side then u have access to the battery i suggest u take the battery out and then charge it and then put it back in when u have finishd n e questions just pm me or post on here

Just a quick one, now that I have the battery hooked up I have it on 6V trickle charge is this ok cause the only other option is 12V setting which I think is too high.

Thanks again
