Okay, after renewing my domain name im needing the help of anyone who knows how to build a semi decent website.
Its called randomart and its a place for me to sell my artwork and provide any other artists a place to show off their stuff (for a small fee obvioulsy!)
i was in it with a friend of mine who built the original site but hes a bit of a nightmare when it comes to getting his finger out so ive had a domain and no site for about a year which is why i want to do it on my own!
im just hoping someone on here with the know how can spare a few hours of their time showing/helping (doing it for) me
anyone?????

Why not start off with something like http://www.mamboserver.com/
The whole guts of the thing is built for you. Just tweak it! Similar but not as complex as phpNuke.
Demo - http://demo.mamboserver.com/
If thats not what your looking have you got a link to what your friend has done so far? The word 'sell' makes things a whole lot more tricky. Do you need to sell through a paypal accound or an online shopping cart?
Others question would be - do you have a MySQL database, can you run PHP and CGI scripts? Do you have a clue what I'm talking about?
I'll try and guide you but you need to have a better idea of what it is your trying to achieve.

i have have no idea what youre jibbering on about!! when i say sell, i'll probably do it through paypal to start with, its easier for me....shopping carts and stuff sound a bit complicated.
As for gettin the stuff that was originaly done, i have no hope, which is why im having to go it alone and start over again.!!!

This was built using Mambo http://www.jennings.com.sg/ and shows off a collection.
Anything like what you had in mind?

thats a bit boring to be honest.
my original site had this cool intro page with some flash graphics of the site name, then the enter button appeared and took you to the home page.
had a bit of music playing too!
that kinda thing im wanting!!

Don't take this wrong but what you want is not necessarily what is right.
Most website visitors expect a clean un-cluttered page which is simple and easy to navigate away from through the rest of the site. Flash intro's are old hat and unpopular for good reason, embedded music is also a bit tacky.
This is a perfect example of a good website http://www.fireborne.com/ which I would expect to see art shown.
No rubbish, no guestbook, forum chatbox etc just clean presentation. Thats just my opinion, if you want something else and need help I'll try and point you in the right direction.

It depends on the kind of artwork thats being featured......ive researched loads of diferent sites, and although im going to make mine similar to some of the better ones, i want somethng thats also a bit different, thats the whole point of our site....its a bit out there, it goes with the style of artwork we do, besides, its not just painting, both of us also do some graphics work, mine based on urban art (graffitti)
I can appreciate what youre saying and in some respects its very true, its just not suitable for us and what we want and are trying to achieve
